    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The tank is finally welded.

I try to open the exhaust header bolts, but with poor results. Two bolts cut off, two not opening and four opened.
I need to lift the whole bike on the working bench upside down and weld nuts in the broken bolts to get them out.
But thats later, next thing is relocating the battery, oil cooler and all electronics under the seat and rear "scoop".
 
Invisible work today. I drill off 4 broken exhaust header bolts from the cylinder head.
Now those 4 threads in the cylinder head are Helicoils.
First I try to get them out by welding nuts on the broken bolts and then screw them out,
but after about 40 welded nuts I think it?s maybe easier to bore the bolts away.

When the EF was "in position" I weld new steering stopper on the frame.

If that tail piece is anything like your tank, it is sure to be a thing of beauty.

I was just wishing the very same thing but then I realized it would only waste a lot of my time. Somehow I doubt I would just start cranking out perfectly curved gas tanks.
 
The tail cowling is formed. It needs some fasteners before finishing. Next thing after that is to swap the forks to-99 600 GSXR forks,
then wheels to -89 1100 GSXR wheels and then few more things before the whole bike is ready to test ride.

Looks great to me, so far.
The proportions of the tank and seat to each other seems right and again those two pieces seem right towards the size of the bike.
 
That is just beautiful work! Have any interest in doing another set to sell?

sorry to bring down the wonderful thread with my asenine questions but would you mind sharing your tips on how you did the tail. Is that a buck (and what is it made of) underneath the tail. And did you hammer form it all or run it in a e-wheel? I am trying to decide on the style of tail and then tempt fate (hopefully you can share the secret to make it easier) with my own hack version of a tail.

First I made a tail jigg from plywood to get the both halves equal.
Then I cut about the size needed from aluminum sheet. Annealing the aluminum
and then hammering - e-wheel - fitting - hammering - e-wheel - fitting - hammering
- etc. When it?s finally about the right form, then with slapper hammer and hand anvils.
It take time, but it?s rewarding, when finally get the parts finished :-)
