A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have replaced the bars on my GS with Bikemaster Superbike bars and the cables are obviously too long in addition to the brake line. Thought this would be a good time to replace all before the riding season. Anyone out there know if there are off the shelf replacements that are the correct length. I know the GS over in the UK had similar bars but unsure what year and if they are available here.

Thanks

1980 GS1000S cables. The 1982 GS550M throttle cable works also.

Probably need a shorter clutch cable.
As for the throttle, try routing it on the other side of the steering neck first and see if that makes it short enough. ;)
*(Make sure that it doesn't get caught somewhere that it shouldn't be.)
I know that go's without saying but, someone would just HAVE to post a negative comment if I didn't add it.

Thanks Guys,

Yea, the throttle cable will work but the clutch cable now has an extra bend in it and it does cause some binding. I'll check out the ones for the 1000S.

Cheers

Also, check YouTube for videos about making custom cables. A little work and you can shorten yours for free!

I got the GS1000S clutch cable for my G a few weeks ago and just had a chance to get it installed last night. Perfect fit and it smoothed out the feel, Thanks Nessism, great info for anyone changing bars on a "G" in the future.

Did you get a measurement of the GS1000S cable before you put it on? What was the difference in length between it and the stock 850G cable?

You can buy factory cables which work, with no mods, by using the cables from a 1983 650m (katana). I've used them on my 650g and I believe I got the tip from member, Physics teacher. PM me if you have any questions.

It was just shy of 3 in. shorter, I replaced the stock bars with superbike bars. The length matched up perfectly and it opened up the radius which took the bind out of the cable. The inner cable is just a tad thicker but that didn't turn out to be a factor.

Cheers

bbjumper...thanks for the info. I've just put euro bars on my 650, and I'm experiencing some clutch and throttle kink.

CharlieG, I'll follow up with a PM.
