A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

does anyone know how to modify the throttle tension
its pritty tight

When you say pretty tight, do you mean it takes excessive force to turn the throttle grip?

How is the return? Does it snap back on it's own, or are you having to push it back?

What year/model GS do you have?

sorry i should have been more specific
the throttle does snap back and i have a gs 1000 from 78
after a short amount of time the throttle cramps my hand up
do i need to just get use to the throttle spring or is their a mod or something i can do to make this lighter or easier

Search around for a lighter spring. Your '78 1000 should be fitted with a push /pull (dual cable) throttle, so it's safe to go lighter if you want to. I did the same on my 850. It's now more enjoyable to ride on longer trips.:)

Make sure your cables are lubed well to avoid sluggish returns, and enjoy the difference.

I got same problem and I tried a bunch of things, but today I tested my elcheapo approach. Hose clamp and stubby elastic band anchored around cable- worked flawless, held throttle 55 to 60 mph easily and you could override it in either direction.

Less whining.

Actually... if you go to the hardware store, you can buy a little "S" hook... it's shaped like the letter "S", so if they try to sell you a "C" hook, you turn around and walk right of the store.

Anyway, that "S" hook can be hooked to the top of the spring, and the top spring pin, it'll give you about 25-30% lighter throttle. Personally, I like the throttle stiff, too much can go wrong when you need to chop the throttle and NEED to have it snapped closed and KNOW it's closed.

You could also get one of those "old man" wrist throttle clips... takes the pressure off your wrist and puts it on the pad of your palm...

Something about this screams "not OK"... like in the way truck-nuts, duct-tape over broken windows, and $1000 sound systems in $300 cars is not OK.
I love simplicity, especially when it does the job- it flips off easily without finger damage or screaming. Changing spring tension at carbs could be bad news at wrong time.
