    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I went to the gas station today, a full-service place a few blocks from my house. The attendant comes up to fill my tank, and says "Man I used to have a bike looked just like this... an 86 Yamaha [somethingorother], 550... looked just like this. I been a veteran of two US wars and I'll always buy an American car, but only Japanese bikes."

I was visiting a friend in NJ a few years ago and was astounded when we stopped at the gas station and the guy came out to fill the tank. I hadn't seen that in many years.

Get used to the compliments on these wonderful bikes and enjoy the holidays.:)

Yeah, I havent seen a gas station with an attendent in over 20 years. :-)
The last one I remember was a Shell station and I think they only came out to fill the bike up to get a better look at it. I had a new 74 Kawasaki H1E two stroke, triple then. heh

Kinda hit and miss around here whether it's full serve or not. The one's I've been to that are full serve know well enough NOT to pump gas for bikers. They always turn the pump on and hand me the nozzle. Smart way to do it, if the owner spills it, it's his/her fault. Never know when there's gonna be a rattle can paint jobber coming through. :eek:

As for the point of the thread, intersections, gas stations and grocery stores are where I get most of the attention. The 650 is the grocery getter all summer! Timmie's coffee shops are for posers though, usually Hardley "tough guys".
 
State law in New Jersey, you can't pump your own gas.

I live in PA, and PA is mostly DIY. There's two gas stations across the street from each other about four blocks from my house. I go to whichever one is more convenient, and today, the full-serve one was more convenient.

The guy knows that bikers like to pump their own, and I was fine doing that, but it has one of those environmental safety hoods on it and you have to hold the hood with one hand while dispensing with the other. Now I know. This particular station you can't pay at the pump anyway.
 
Around NE you can still find full service stations once in a while. I think there are 2 or 3 here in Lincoln. Around here though it's usually full service at a couple pumps and self-serve at a couple others. I've never pulled up to full service anyway, so I don't know if they pump for bikers or not. The only station in town where the law requires the attendant to pump it is the one that sells race fuel.

As far as people admiring my bike. I haven't experianced any of that yet, but I didn't get to ride much before the weather turned to crap. Hopefully that will come this spring.

What brought that law on?
 
When I lived in Illinois I used to hit the "Full Moon Cafe" off 41 near Great Lakes Naval Station. My little ratty '83 GS550E used to get a bunch of attention. A bunch of mid to older guys used to come up to me and tell me they used to club race thier bike and it looked exactly like mine... Ratty/tatty E model with no side covers, removed airbox and a Vance&Hines 4 -1...
 
Their are some stations in Cal that will pump for you. It is a program for the senior citizens, They also need to have a special windshield sticker I think. Otherwise PRE PAY self serve
 
Whats a service station?. Over here you cant buy a fanbelt or whatever but u can but a loaf of bread. Pump ure own fuel, run across the pavement in the rain then stand in line while everyone else buys crap. And all i want to do is hand over $20 in cash for fuel and leave, Arghhhh the good old days are mostly gone.
 
I don?t think there?s a station anywhere around here where you don't pump. A few years ago, I was in Plattsburgh, NY and needed gas, pulled into a station near the old AFB and had to wait for the attendant, a very slow, very fat guy. He waddled out, filled my tank, took my card and was gone forever trying to figure out how to ring it up.
 
There's about 15 gas stations in a 1 mile radius from me. Most are self serve, about 4 have attendant's. Some of the self serve's will pump if you pay an extra 30-50 cents per gallon, ripoff.
 
Well I like living in Oregon where you can't pump your own gas by law. I don't mind not getting out in a rain and wind storm to pump fuel, let some other nucklehead get paid minimum wage to do it. Haven't found one yet that doesn't hand over the nozel to me when I'm on my bike though.
