DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok so today i rode the bike roughly 60 mi round trip and the bike was making a odd gurgling noise the whole time but i know its not the crabs because their is oil on top of the crank casing in drips under the carbs ??
i am guessing a blown piston ring? any thoughts on what else may have caused this because the bike need a complete overhual anyway lol :twistedevil:

also i have an 80-82 model tank for sale or trade for a 78 model tank:lol:

i will be posting many many many pics up on photo bucket for those who like details only about50% of the pics will make it to the forms

then what is it and i will send ya a pm about the tank ok it has a hack paintjob on it and a fairly significant dent in it

help on this problem would be good before i buy a complete rebuild kit
i need to know every scenario before i just say screw it and start wrenching and labeling it all
bike was running fine until 2 days ago when it started running like DOOKY and not wanting to go without lots of throttle as if it all of a sudden got way to rich
it is giving all the signs of a blown piston ring but i dont know i could be wrong

my GS850 performed the same way, smoked ridiculously too, no idea what the problem was as I had just gotten my madura and didn't troubleshoot it, I degreased the motor to hell though but never found out exactly where it was leaking.

i have check it all out took off the crabs took of the pipes found oil inside of both on cylinder #4 thanks

As far as leaks on top of the crankcase, check your cam chain tensioner, they often leak. All mine did on my '82 GS1100EZ.
It's this thingy sticking out behind the cylinders over the crankcase and under the carb boots with that (knob) wheel on it. Feel for oil on the bottom.

Do a compression test CHECK the oil for gas. The crankcase may be full of gas re the dripping out of the breather caused by bad petcock and bad carb float needles

That was my thought how is your oil level? If you bike is overfull of oil and is really full of gas it would run like that. Also as in your first post maybe it is a STD, because I have never seen a bike with CRABS:D

the spark plug threads have oil on them and the exhaust pipe has oil in it its gotta be ither a ring or a cracked cylinder

OK has anyone removed the block from the frame by their self i need help figuring out how to do that!
i need to get it out of the bike before i start to remove it

You'll pull it out from the right side; many many threads on here about doing it - some manhandle it out, others lay the bike down, still others rig up something.

I have pulled my engine a few times and I will not ever attempt to remove or install the engine without taking off the top end first. Makes it lighter and much more room to wiggle it out. I put a floor jack under the engine, unbolt the mounts, jack it up high enough to clear the frame rails, and just slide it onto a waiting hand truck or something else around the same height as the frame rail. You dont want to have to lower it to the floor, hard on the back.
