Tips for mirror vibration?

Hey there. I bought some cheap mirrors from Dennis Kirk for like 15 -20 bucks or so. They look fine and work well below 5 or 6k. But beyond that, it vibrates like crazy and it's hard to see anything. I was thinking about trying to find some rubber o rings or something to sit between the handle bars and the mirror bolt. Anyone have any other suggestions?

The manic salamander bar end weights I have calmed the mirror's down a bit, they do vibrate though, not enough that I can't see in them. Not sure rubber washer's will help. They might help change the frequency, worth a try.

I've already got the iso grips on the bars so I can't add bar ends. I suppose I could fill the bars with that product (forget the name) where you fill it with the heavy goop, but I'd like a more localized solution if anyone has one.

I filled the insides of my mirrors with RTV silicone. I drilled an inconspicuous hole in the bottom edge and filled the mirror with a caulk gun.

Interesting! I'll have to check out my mirrors when I get home to see if they have enough "body" to fill. They're the more flat circular mirrors.

I had bar/ mirror vibration issues and resolved it with a tip from here:

get some ball bearings about the inside diameter of your handlebar pipes.

Squeeze in a gob of caulk, way back in there, insert a bearing. Another gob, another bearing. All the way to the end of the bar, equal number of gobs and bearings on each side.

It makes an amazing difference! Not the best solution if you are trying to make an ultra-light streetfighter.... but great for an everyday bike.

Start by re-torquing your engine mounts, then clean & balance the carbs. an o-ring may help but will most likely only change the rev range it happens at.Better off to fix the vibes instead.

Many GS models (I have no idea which ones, other than the GS850) came with rubber mounts for the mirrors. You can order these for about $9 or $10 each if yours are missing or were never there in the first place.

I didn't see them on a quick check of the 1100E fiche, but I bet they're on all the shafties.

And yes, the view in the mirrors on a GS850 is exceptionally clear. :-D

i was having the same problem with my bar end mirrors... i used 2 wine corks (pinot evil and lindeman's cab), drilled holes through, while still on the bit shaved them with a razor blade, pushed them into the bars for fitment, removed corks from bars and mounted the corks to the mirror body and pounded them in with a mallet, tightened them up, mounted the mirrors to the mirror body, positioned them and tightened them til they were firm. no vibrations no movement now.

In my experience those rubber cushions on the mirror mounts are worthless...
