  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. hi everyone , i gont a set opf 1100 cams for my 750, anyone else using them in theres, and what should i time them at??
stock will work, but should i buy the advancable web cam gears ,and degree them in , and what degrees should i use:-k, really need some help guys as i am wanting to do this once,and thats it, it wont be until spring but i am gatheing parts and info now


will the 1100 jug and pistons fit ,someone the head does,, THANKS TO ALL THAT HELP
 
I think the 80-82 750E exhaust cam is the same part number as the 80-82 GS1100E exhaust(6.5mm lift), while the 1100E intake is a bit more than the 750 (7.0mm lift).

Unless you have someone to show you how to degree the cams, you might be better of just dropping them in with stock gears.

getting adjustable sprockets will probably not be a do it once and forget it ordeal. The opportunity to try many different combinations of cam timing will be a great experience. - coming from a tinker n tune kind of guy.

I have a set set at 105 int and 115 exh the piston to valve clearance is still over 0.100" int and 0.120 " exh. (total W.F.O.)

most cam mfg. advise to run 108 sometimes 110 on either and/or both. very safe so that things do not hit each other at redline.

why not degree them with the stock sprockets in the stock timing position verify the lobe centers and check all the piston to valve and valve to valve clearances then make the decision.

mine is a 83 750 ed, im not new to rebuilding motors,or timing stuff, ,but its nice to know from ppl that have dont it first hand,and what works,so theres no guess work
the stock cams i have are great, bike screams , but i would like the rumble, of a performance cam,and some more power everywhere
will the 1100 cam gears work or use 750 gears?, i dont know the sizes ,or distance from cam to crank stuff
 
Someone on here will know .. but I suspect you will not see an improvement from the stock 83 cams to older 1100 cams.

83 750? Huh I don't know? The 1100 and 1150 cams do swap, but I dont know much of the 83 750 internals. It probably does but as mentioned the lift may actually decrease.

If you are going to degree your cams then this works very well.

BikeCliff has the 83 GS750ES manual on his website; It is 148 Mb or so . The lift is 7.5 intake and 6.5 exhaust. That means the 82 GS1100 lift is 0.5 shorter on the intake side. So for perfromance you are going backward.

You need 1150 cams at 8.0/7.5mm v.s. yours ar 7.5/6.5mm (Int/Exh). BTW the 0.340 webcams I have are degreed 105/107 (IIRC). I could have gone to 0.348's but if you want to keep the power low and retain the mid range this seems to be better. Bill had his degreeed at 110/110 and it is more like a light switch at 6K. No so much mid range then it all comes on at 6K

what about the duration???
 
The 1150 cams do not have provision to drive a mechanical tach....the 1100 EZ/ED do. If your '83 750 has an electronic tach, it won't be an issue, otherwise you will need to plan on losing the use of your stock tach.

Cool, that was the only issue that kept me from dropping 1150 cams into my bike. Both '82 and '83 1100 EZ/ED intake cams have the same lift (7mm), so he would be going backward (performance wise) with either 1100 intake, I believe.....only the '83 1100SD Katana got the hotter intake (.5mm more lift at 7.5) which is the same as his stock '83 750 intake cam.:-k

Okay Jim, even if you are correct, and Suzuki is wrong, I think we can agree that he would be, at best, matching the lift he already has with his stock intake cam, and benefit by .5mm on the exhaust side with 1100 ED/Katana cams.....1150 cams would be the way to go.:)

Yea we agree, the 1150's were my original suggestion :)

Here is another example of 83 1100 cams that have over 7.0mm lift on the intake. They could be 83 big kat cams but not near as likely as 83 1100ED/ESD cams.

If it hasn't been answered you'll need to use the 750 cam sprockets.

Well I for one was not sure if all these cams interchange; so I guess they do with the 750 sprockets. Same go for the older 80-82 GS750E's (I mean sprockets)?

no not electronic, but it did act like it was a few times,
the rpms were erratic but its mech tach
i cant believe the 700 and 750 have the same lift as the 1100, i have a factory manual ,and the lift is identical for the 700-750
and the 1100 has a lot biger stroke,and duration will be dramatic i will need to measure both side to side:-k
but thats why i asked you guys /someone that knows for a fact from doing this swap

Jadesystems reported that 83 700 and 73+ 750's were electronic. I guess a 83 750E was mechanical?

Realize that the lift on the GS's was pretty conservative. Performance cams pretty much start at about 0.330-0.340" lift with 0.348" still very streetable. It goes up from there. The oil cooled GSXR up to about 1992 ran high lift cams as around 0.350 IIRC. The GSXR 750 was a real hot shot designed like a race bike for high reving. In certain years I think the GSXR 750 even had bigger carbs (38mm) than the GSXR 1100 (36mm). The GSXR 750 reved mush higher than the 1100. So this GS700/750 were precursors to the GSXR and were pretty hot little motors compared to the earlier 16V 80-82 GS 750's.
