    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys! In the near future (once my parts get here) I'll be doing a cam tensioner rebuild, so I was planning on cleaning my carbs while I'm there. Unfortunately, I've never cleaned parts on any kind of vehicle. What kind of solvent should I use? Do you just use a big plastic container to wash it out in? How do you dispose of the waste afterwards?

When you say clean the carbs, do you mean shine them up or dissemble then and do a carb rebuild? different products for different things. Simple Green is great for cleaning grease off the outside of engines, cam tensioners and such.
 
Ah sorry, I meant do a carb rebuild, as in cleaning out the internals as well.
 
Berrymans Chem Dip and Carb Dip works great, is highly recommended on here, and is sold at Walmart for about $19. Follow it up with a good shot of aerosol carb cleaner, then I use air from the compressor to blow them all out. Cycleorings.com has the kits of orings for you in neat little package for cheap, bout to order some myself here soon.
 
Ah gotcha! Thanks for the advice! I don't have an air compressor though, can I just let it air dry? Or would dirt particulates gather on it?
 
just dry it on a towel, paper towel, or buy some air in a can....if you really want to

You can't do any better than this. Just make sure you see the spray coming out the orifices. Check the needle sizes, clip positions, and jet sizes to ensure they're all the same. Write 'em down so you know what you have in case you have jetting issues in the future.

A local source for o rings is GSRs own Robert Barr. And yes you can do this, just make sure you download and print the tutorial from BassCliff's site. Allow enough time for soaking the carb bodies. Overnight is enough time to loosen every bit of buildup, then use the air in a can to blow it out of the passages (this gets messy so wear goggles and don't do it in the kitchen!). Good luck!

Hi all, im certainly meaning to be an imposter or wise guy but iv just checked ebay an cannot get Simple Green here in Ireland, is there any chance it would be the same as Fast Orange hand cleanser which we can get ? that would be much to handy, wouldnt it, sorry and thanks all.
 
Not the same. Simple Green is an all-purpose cleaner/degreaser. Surely you have an equivalent over there...

just wanted to check...I got some at walmart and it was a brown liquid. Is that correct?

Different than the clear liquid I used previously. Seemed to clean pretty well but I was surprised by the brown color.
 
That is the stuff. Kind of stinky, too. Be sure and use gloves, the stuff is pretty toxic and pretty strong. Use in a well ventilated area, at least while the lid is off.
