this weekend when going over my front end and replacing steering bearings and putting in drag bars i was told the only way to get grips off the hanglebars was to cut em' and gut em'. needless to say i was disappointed, i' running a really tight budget and even if grips are cheap the nearest store is a 30 minute ride and online isnt always too cheap. i looked over my grips and noticed that there was a little play in the end of the grip towards the middle of the bar obviously where the previous installer did not put adhesive. i sprayed WD-40 and kept twisting and working the WD-40 in, and after 10 mins of twisting it popped off, and i was able to reuse it on my new drag bars. i tried it again on my friends bike and found if you work the wd-40 in and then stick the grip in a vice you can use the extra leverege to work the grip off by rotating the bar around in the grip. thought id share the experience with you guys.
