    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Took master cylinder apart....

I bought a rebuild kit for my master cylinder. 1979 GS750. It came apart all fine. Except the spring popped out and landed on the floor. So I have the new parts ready to install. But the new spring has a rubber piece on one end and a half cirlce thing on the other end, just like the old one. Which side goes in first. I dont know since mine shot out. I tried looking at the diagram in my manual but I can't tell a difference. Its just a blur.

Is the spring facing the right direction or does it get turned around.

Take a look at the old rubber piece, from what I can remember it should have an imprint on it that looks like a star from the metal plunger. You have it reversed. The metal piece on the end of the spring goes in the bore first and the rubber piece rests against the metal plunger.
 
You have the spring reversed, acording to the diagram found in my factory manual for my 850GLZ.
 
Yea, flip the spring around. Also, make sure you look down the bore with a flashlight and inspect for any pitting in the metal. It's very common for the aluminum to be corroded where the piston came to rest. Hopefully yours won't be.

I had that problem with mine..I cleaned the bore as best I could but it caused the m/c to leak a very small amount of fluid past the seal. One of the project this spring will be to find another m/c. It doesn't leak too bad but I just don't like the idea of it leaking at all.
 
ok, thanks for the info guys. I will check out the bore tomorrow. But I believe its almost perfect from when I cleaned it out.

I would trash it now and not ride it. This is not something that can be tolerated since it can fail completely, right when you need it most.

A service test for a rebuilt cylinder is to clamp it down with a bunggie cord or rope overnight and see if there is any seepage.

I fell down a flight of stairs in november and broke my leg..so I won't be riding for a while. I'm still on crutches, can't walk without them yet. I'm hoping that I can walk in the next couple of months.

I had a friend, broke his leg in a car accident. Stopped by one day- leg in cast and crutches tied to the back.. take your time
