Track Stories 08

Oil return from that gsxr head to the crank. What do I win.

Bingo, we got a winner

Ryan you won yourself a cool ring gear neckless. It's what all the top dog racers wear around the pits between rounds for good luck. Just pay S&H and you'll have it for this weekend race.

Plus it's nice to have a backup gear just in case.

Just thought you guys migh appreciate this, but half way through our points season I am in the top 10 at Houston raceway park and San Antonio raceway.Running the s/p car class at both tracks.Been a really good year. Those car guys will wear you out

Cool!! Congrats!

Jake, did the oil just get stuck in the drains? Figured once you pumped so much up there, it would just go down the cam chain galley. Was there a problem with it?

See a lot of guy punch holes into the top of the cases, or the clutch cover to drain the turbos. If it's not fast enough, you could try something like that with larger lines in the head.

Dang, that would have been a SC gear, I bet Ryan would be all over paying for the shipping. LOL

Your right Mark the oil would just drain back down the cam chain tunnel.

I've wonder why those drains where designed like that on the GS case. Looking at it, it just allow's more oil to the rod area, does this mean there's a lack of oil and this was one way to solve it ??.

But since I swapped heads and the GSXR/Katana doesn't use those drains I'd figure I find an easy fix. Works great too, pour some oil up top and watch it all flowed back to the crank.

I'd figure it's not going to hurt anything drilling 2 holes, rattail file and a few feet of 1/4 line.

Looking back all my broke parts came from me running the bigblock?? 2 pistons, 2 cranks and clutch basket. So going back down to the 1166 motor should save a few parts.....I hope!

First round foder last night. They ran it 1/8 mile due to water in the shutdown.

I dialed a 5.90 against a 7.05 sled. He cut a .002 and I was .037. He was running slightly slower than is dial and I would have run dead on. I made a mistake and lifted slightly as I came up on him. I just ran out of track and went 5.91. Margin of victory was .0011. Or just a smidge over 2 inches. Lifting before I get in front is a bad habit of mine. I thought I broke myself of it, but I guess not. It was no points so a good night to go out first round.

I'll post some video later. They had a wheelie contest, quick 8 doorslammers and also a stick shift class. A good time was had by all.

I don't see her saying anything, and I wasn't there, but DreamRyder had a mishap at the track on her busa. Had a minor wheelie, got it down, had a large wheelie, came down crossed up, and ended up highsiding. Wasn't moving real fast, wasn't too far out of the hole, but put scuffs on the bike and did quite a number on her leathers. Other than some bumps and bruising, the only injury that I know of is that she broke a finger pretty decently.

Saw her 2 weeks later at Byron and she was all taped up but seemed to be in good spirits. Glad that's all that happened.

Thanks hun.. sorry I aint' had the time to get on boards since I went down..

here is a vid posted up of my wipe out... some major problems with the chasis setup for the extreme traction at the trackthat day... also I had just put on a new quick turn throttle tube which apparently was way too easy for me to twist unintentional while being tossed around :o

bta Mark... bike is lookin FANTASTIC!

Hey, we need to get you a GS to putt around on. Make it official. I wouldn't worry too much about the hand. Mine did the same thing. Could not lift the one finger at all. Once the pins were pulled, it started working within a couple of weeks. I'll post a picture of big bird once I have some time to put the chassis together.

I was going to take the flag bike to the track today but never made it. Had to do some house work and just ran out of time.

I picked up a new pressure sensor to replace the one I broke last week but had to change the harness to use it. Went to calibrate it and could not get any pressure in the lines. Found a cracked fitting. I replaced the brass fittings with stainless. New sensor is good to 150PSI, different brand... Mounted this one with hose instead of hard mounted to the manifold. The vibration is just too hard on them. The logger is working good again.

The rear brake was at the end of its adjustment. Last week I had taken it all the way in just to get enough brakes to stop. Needed to be fixed. I pulled the pads and they were good. Checked the fluid level. Full. Drained the fluids for the first time. I hate working on brakes, and they worked when I bought the chassis, so I never touched them. Talked with the PO tonight, sounds like he never changed it also. That fluid must be 20+ years old. What a mess. Some water, rust and gunk... Cleaned it all out and went to bleed it. Would not bleed. After about an hour of dinking with it, decided the master needed new seals. I ended up robbing parts from the junker bike which uses the same master. I had bought a brand new one for it. A few pumps and now it has better brakes than its ever had since I've owned it. Need to order a seal kit now.

Had to pull the tire to get the caliper below the master. Now I have to put it all back together. Maybe I should check the front brake too...

Me and the Sporty when out in the 2nd round.

I guess if my cool ring was chromed the Harley gods would of giving me some more mojo

Ended up runner up on Saturday. Raced #2 in points in the final. I had a .000 perfect light. He was .002. I broke out for the loss. Bike was running good. 9.46, 9.46, 9.44, 9.43, 9.42, and 9.39 in the final. I'm not sure why it ran so fast in the final. All my weather data pointed to a 9.41. Air was getting better as the day went on. Bike would pick up 1 or 2 each round. Just big dummy me hit the brakes too late.

Congrats!

I stayed home and worked in the yard. Did finish up my bike.

I have discovered the 100% sure way to solve all breakage problems... Leave the bike in the garage. For fun, invite your friends over, stand around it, drink beers and tell stories!

The 99% sure way and I think you already know this one, leave the fancy dancy fingle fangle stuff in the garage and race the low powered stock 10 - 12 second street bike.

Ryan, has the right idea. Pretty reliable, pretty quick, does the same thing over and over, and wins races....

LOL...that's what I've been doing all summer...:D

Hey Ray, to tell the truth, I'm not real into the looks of it. I like a bike with a full fairing. He did a pretty good job pulling it together. Yea, I agree on the blue and stars. I think it flows better this way, but its just missing that extra pop.

There's a lot of work left to be done. Not to mention all the missing parts.

I should have it ready by the time our friend E is ready for a show down. Not holding my breath that I will be able to keep up with her and that Busa. That's one wicked azz bike she's running now!! I am so afraid.

Thanks Ryan. It's come a long way from those first pictures I sent you.

We all get up and are ready to get on the road and they cancelled the race due to rain. This is getting old. The called the race at 9:00 am. We don't even leave until 12:00 and our time runs don't start until 2:00. It was a perfect day. No rain, blue skys. We were going to head north but they were running some non-public event.
