Track Stories 08

Holly crap batgirl!! Are you sure you can't talk Nem into coming? That thing is wicked and I would sure feel better if he were there to make adjustments.

Friday is out for test and tune but we are on for Saturday. We will leave about 12:00 from the shop if you want to drive up with us. We will have the motorhome and stay at the track for Sundays race. Weather is supposed to be good. Track will be preped on Saturday. Sunday is anyones guess.

I will leave my stuff at home so we can focus on getting this thing done right.

Can't wait to test that license plate holder of yours!

LOL ... I wish I could but he's gotta work Sat and Sun evenings and he only has enough vacation days to take off for the Byron Points Series...

we'll be fine... He'll be available by phone if we need to tell him what the run looked like and to ask what would be his suggestion to adjust.. as for the AMS and boost settings that I can take care of not a problem. Clutch not much we can adjust with it after we change out the springs tonight. From there it's really just basic stuff like Rear Tire PSI and Suspension that we would play with :-k

Yeah ditto on Friday for me as well.. but the plans for Sat and Sun sound perfect... I'll have the footon mattress in the back of the burb for me and my girls to sleep on so we'll camp along side ya then Sat night. :p

I forgot to look up their hours for Sat but if that's what time ya'll are headin up I'll plan to meet up with you to do just the same. I'm assumin you sent me the shop location by pm so I can google ya ;)

As for prep... well maybe Sat will be my record setting ET day and Sunday will be just race and have fun day... I have some good notes on some settings that worked for poor traction now so I'll have that along with me... then hopefully we'll have good traction on Sat that I can add that setup to my notes too..

BTW my license plate holder was put to the test Tues night LOL... when I had to abort my one run cuz of no power to dash and shifter... Nem came down to the return lane to push me back to the pits.. at first he was trying to use my drag peg and kept fallin off it.. I turned and said .. DUH! Use the license plate holder... hehehee... he laughed and looked down and said OH WOW PERFECT! hehehe..

The track opens much earlier but they run the Jr's for several rounds before we get to run. We have made the mistake of leaving by 10:00 too many times. Then we just sit around.

Wait till I get behind you with that 100cc bike...

not a prob... I dont' plan to make a dozen passes or nutton on Sat so I'm in no hurry...

as for the 100cc bike .. just keep her under the speed limit on the return lane - don't wanna give 'em any reason to red flag me :D

E.

Of course I am going to take it easy in the return lanes, your a girl arn't you?

I played with it for a while before I came up with this mess. Cut the outlet end with a longer taper, gave it a bit of a twist and really shoved it forward.
/n

The real question is if the old fat man on a 25 year old junked out bike can hang with little miss E with her new Busa....I'm pretty sure now that I can afford to use metal rather than cardboard it won't be a problem. Looking forward to tomarrow. See ya at the shop.

oh you are sooo gonna get it :p

yup yup... I gotta be insane to trust you ;)

see ya at the shop around 10am... will call once I get off the main freeway :D

weather is lookin GOOD - knock on wood....

Hey Ryan, I was looking at that thing when it was posted, thinking it if were only $1000 I would gamble. Just remember, the junk bike came from Florida. LOL Maybe the head could be salvaged? They sure have a lot of T/F parts.

We had a nice weekend. The weather was great. The bike turnout was sparce at best. The good thing was they let it run and they paid out the full amount even though they did not have a full show. Maybe a change in heart by the management? I took some video. Dougs bar broke a while back and he picked up a bad habit of putting his foot out. I finally taped it and played it back to him to show how stupid it looked. That cured 80% of it. He was so focused on his foot after that, that he forgot he had to focus on the tree too. LOL. I was very happey with everyone, even out newest member E. We are an all male team and it is pretty tough when the wives join. We won't get into that. I had Dougs hair on end when I told him we may have company and it was a she....

Once he saw her turn a 180 MPH pass he decided she was ok to let hang around. So E, if you want to hang out again some time, feel free to look us up.

I felt really bad that I could not help her out with that bike of hers. It is way out of my league. She did let me tinker with it a bit but I think I did more harm than good. The bike has more things to tweek than I have hairs on my back.

E, there was too much clare on the cluster to see it in the video. Do you have a way I can send you a large video file so I can send something in the res of the camera? I can post a compressed version if you like. I really should have stood more to the side to see that front tire. It does appear to start to hover after about 5' but a few feet off the tree is where it really gets out of hand. Looks very repeatable to me but you need to see the videos yourself and have Nem take a look. Let me know.

US131 hooked great this weekend for sure.. weather was perfect - if on the tad hot side and made it difficult to stay cool.. but that's ok.. I'll take that over rain anyday :D

Mark and Doug... ya'll were fabulous to pit with.. MUCH APPRECIATED for all the help you both gave me. And no you didn't hurt more than ya helped.. other than maybe should have been watchin my front tire from the side right off the line and beyond to see where the wheelie was starting from.. cuz we were adjusting for it coming in hard later rather than gradual early on.. but that's ok... I know it's hard to watch everything with so much going on and you were tryin to pit for 3 bikes

Glad Doug was at ease about my pit'n with ya'll, I tend to forget sometimes that I'm a girl and that it might make some uneasy having me around with wives to consider and all.. BUT REALLY I"M JUST ONE OF GUYS :p

and come on.. you and I both know only REAL reason he wanted me to stick around was so he could straddle my bike LMAO - I see another horse being added to your stable before long LOL

BTW tell your Mrs I'm sorry I didnt' talk with her more.. I was so stressed out about the bike and trying to think of what could be done that I wasn't as social as I normally am... and my girls were sorry to hear they missed getting to play with your German S. I was not expecting their Dad to get them till around 3 or 4 so that was a lil unsettling to have them leave so early ... :(

As for the glare on teh dash... yeah I was afraid of that.. I need to hook up my bullet camera mount again.. that thing I loved recording my dash display... It was just too hard for me to try to hold the rpm BELOW my launch light's trigger point and watch the tree and then my helmet kept sliding down over my view of the tree when I was in a full tuck...argh!

You should be able to send me large file sizes to my work email if you like then I can burn it on a CD here.. I'll pm that to you.

again thanks to you both for the help and the great food and hospitality and lettin me run my fans and charger off your generator ... I owe ya'll big time for sweetin it out wrenchin on my bike.. I'll bring ya a treat for the bike and sled weekend... :~D

E.

BTW - my highlight for the entire weekend was to watch and listen to Tyler and Doug run against eachother.. they were like mirror images going down the track by sight and sound.. all the same shift points.. sounded like only one bike was going down the track :p

that is one heck of a team ;)

E.

Well how You'all do this weekend ??????????????

Around here it's rain, lighting, rain, lightning, lightning and more lightning. Here's a house just down the street from me. For awhile I thought I was living in Florida again

004-3.jpg

Dang that was a close hit! Glad their house didn't burn and hope no one was hurt.

I hope the kids got enough to eat. Glad you brought them with you this time.

I'll let E fill you in on her victory! Yes she made it into the finals!!! Her pit guy got a hug out of the deal, so it was worth it!

We had ditched that crappy KZ tranny and installed a GPZ in blacky. Changed all the gearing to get it close and had not even fired the engine until we got to the track. Normal for us. Paul (FBG) did a great job with the GPZ parts we sent him. Blacky shifted flawless the entire weekend. Both bikes ran great except we did a lot of hot lapping and the kids bike starting leaking a bit of oil. I poped the cover, hit it with some break clean and then goobed the crap out of it with some #5. Seemed to solve it.

There was no wind this weekend so the tides changed and the bikes finally took their rightfull place and dominated the field. Both our bikes made it to the semi's and kid was taken out by a street bike in the finals. This guy also took down team Green.

Day two we had a SMALL turnout. Sad as the weather held and the track was well prep'ed. We did not do so well. Too much going on to get into a rhythm. The kid drew the same street bike. I was thinking now way this guy would take him down again but the beers from the night before had taken their toll and down we went. Still made it into the $$$.

The black street bike has no bars, no slick and he hand clutches it. He was cutting killer lights (against kid was 0.014 1st day) and ran dead on. My hat goes of to the rider. He was impressive to watch.

wow ditto on glad to see nothing more happened than what did...

as for my girls gettin enough to eat... oh yeah... but I'm still surprised Kayla didn't want to wake up to eat teh lasagna - she's me constant eater that girl would put away probably as much as Tyler did :o

I was glad to have them with me for a few trackevents this summer since I missed most of it with tryin to recover from the finger injury... I think they enjoyed your AC better than watchin my runs however with teh heat the way it was ...

As for my victory LOL.. not really a victory in my eyes... I took 2nd place in the Outlaw Street Class... BUT there was only two of us in it :p

What was nice was they still did a full pay out so the money was enough to cover my entry and gas out and back...

E.

fella off the org took these two shots... hopin I can get a copy of the one the track fella captured on teh right lane that one really showed the height of the wheelie

Who is that gray haired old man behind you? Yahoo, I'm famous now!!!

Ya, you can't really tell jack from the pictures. I know the tire hovers a few inches about 5-6 feet out. I can see that in the videos. But from the tree to the first block, its an exponential lift. Every time. Well, that's what it looks like to me anyway.

I will post the video on streetfire tonight. Your other account can only support 29,696,000 bytes. Not near enough. This will give you (and everyone else) an idea of what you look like, just the picture will not be crisp. (going from 60Meg to about 3M will loose something). Shoot me an address some time and I'll send you a DVD.

Yea, first thing I heard was "she's going to get her azz spanked, hard!". I know what it's like to try and figure these problems out. Drag racing is such an in-your-face sport and people on the side will always give you their feedback. I get a lot of "help" when I bring my bikes up. Normally its some guy with his buds shows up and started telling me what all I needed to be doing (trying to impress his followers). They get done and I ask, "so, where's your bike?". This always quites them up for some reason.

That said, my advice (LOL) is I would drop the power and bring it on later as it gets moving. I just don't see how your going to get it to settle without adding ballast or changing the geometry (move the motor). It worked pretty good before you put the turbo on. I think you just need to dial it back a bit until you get it under control.

hehehe... yeah I'm not sure who that is... he was like following me around ALL WKND ??? lol

the way you explained it sounds like why I felt like it was immediate at the tree cuz I never felt it come up till I was at the tree and it was like a sling shot up when it did...

darn on the file size.. ok post a low res version for now and mail me the DVD.. I'll pm ya my addy... THANKYOU!

as for the "she's gonna... " comment... oh really??? would love to put that person on a bike that was wheeling hard consistantly and watch them still go at it full throttle knowing it's gonna come up and still try to save the run time and time again

Agreed.. my chasis and suspension needs a major redoing to compensate for the power to weight ratio I got goin on... cant 'take anymore power out without removing the 8# spring and replacing it with a 3# spring.. which may be something I consider ...

as for working before .. yeah strange too cuz the bike was lighter up front and set at stock seat rail height and triple trees.. did all these other adjustments to help put more weight forward to compensate for the more power... there's gotta me a magic setup with teh suspension... I'm not the only 136 lbs rider out there on a big HP bike...

E.

Yea, I was following way too many riders this weekend. I think this will be my last year. The kid goes off to school next month and I really was in it just to help him out.

Hey, I thought 140? You lost 4 lbs in the sun? Kid weighs 130 with the gear on. I think its about controlling that power. To me, that means starting small and building up to keep it stable. What electronics are allowed anyway? Can you run a 2-step, throttle stops etc. to control it?

as for the "she's gonna... " comment... oh really??? would love to put that person on a bike ....

LOL! I have heard stories like this. Starts out at the bar. Someone opens their mouth about how they can ride. Bets are made. Head to the track. Then the details of the blood and gore that follow.. Never asked about insurance, cost of the bike, lawsuits, etc. as they ruin the story...

Ok, I'll go ahead and post the vids then. You should have the DVD by the weekend.

he was def killen them out there.. he's got skillz for sure.. it's nice to see he's got the support like he does ..

Hey, I thought 140? You lost 4 lbs in the sun? Kid weighs 130 with the gear on.

I hadnt' weight myself in a couple weeks or so and when I stepped on the scale yesterday I was 134 in the AM.. but usually 2lbs heavier by evening... so yup no more 140's :p

Reckon the last 2 wks of racin took some weight off me... glad to see it too.. I typically dont 'get to the 140's till winter when I ain't burnin those extra calories by racin..

pretty limited on what we can have in the prostreet class... and the rules are even stricker on the turbo bikes to so call make it more even for the NOS bikes... that's why it's so important to have the chasis and suspension setup just right.. I'd have to have Nem give you the details on what's allowed but I'm pretty sure all of what's on my bike currently is the most I can have and still be legal.

bad part about having so little power early on is you loose your ET drop by waiting till later to add power.. you'll get a higher MPH by adding more HP on the big end but it won't get you those low ET's.. gotta drop that 60' and 330' to see the quicker ET's and without the power out of the whole to do that with you're just gonna be another mid 8sec bike... :o

LOL! I have heard stories like this. Starts out at the bar. Someone opens their mouth about how they can ride. Bets are made. Head to the track. Then the details of the blood and gore that follow.. Never asked about insurance, cost of the bike, lawsuits, etc. as they ruin the story...

LMAO....

Thanks!

One other thing to mention. It would be interesting to see the boost versus distance. In that last run you made Saturday you can see that your staying in the groove and just past the tree where you would normally come up, this is where the tire goes up in smoke. The azz then starts to slide and you shoot to the right and abort. Should not have let you make that run but everyone needs to experience the Martin dew factor at least once. LOL.

Can you send me the text data for those runs?
