got my engine oil fixed and now this...

its not over filled, only does it cold...but its also 10 or so degress at night...so i think its so thick it cant fall back down from the top when its running...

is there anything else i can put in there to solve this? other then the 80-90

bike is 81 850g

Why not buy some synthetic 80-90 ; don't open it, let it sit out at night, in morning see if it appears thinner than what you got now- if not, take it back for refund.

Bike is ruined, I'll send you my ship to address so I can dispose of the bike properly for you. And at no charge, what are friends for?

went for a 30 mile trip down the highway to get the oil warmed up to come out easier....the whole side of my bike is covered in gear oil....what in the hell has caused this...its just started

Have you verified the oil is at the proper level? :-k

You have to pull the shifter cover to access the view port (pull the bolt out) to verify proper level, but it just sounds like your oil level is simply too high.

well i havnt added any oil since last feburary....i filled it up right till it ran out of the little hole...its never done this since about 4 or 5 days ago

i opened the hole up and some ran out...but i just started the bike and i figured it was doing the cause the oil is so thick it couldnt run down fast enough

Hi,

Have a look at this for reference: Secondary Gear Oil Change.

Is the breather system plugged? Where is the oil leaking? Is the oil level in the crankcase changing? There is a seal between the crankcase and bevel gear case that has been known to fail, rarely. Crankcase oil can be forced into the bevel gear case causing it to overflow.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

oil is normal a few days ago...leaks from the small rube connected to the small vent on the left side of the bike above the trans...

im going to go drain it an see how much is in there..and do more checking

drained about a little less then 1/2 a quart out of the trans...also bike was warm when it drained

put 75-90 syn back in it (bout the same that came out)

oil was 1/2 quart low, filled it up...let it run for a few minutes but nothing came out...

so what happens if this gasket is out...ive got a lower mileage spare motor im rebuilding...should i change the same gasket?

no more oil on side of bike from this ordeal

There is only sealer used between the case halves. No gasket involved.

Keep an eye on the engine oil level as well as the vent line.

well after 500 or more miles, after my gear oil change, its back to doing it...i keep adding oil...

guess that means get my spare motor re-ringed and swap

the oild coming out is black as engine oil....doesnt smell like gear oil either :(

shes been a tough old motor and trans...almost a daily redline if not more...lots of rpms and abuse....tough ol bird

also how do i remove the part where the drive shaft bolts on...it has 4 bolts and a big nut in the middle...my spare motor is missing it

Uhm... Can you take a picture of WHERE it is leaking from? "the hose thing above the other thing" doesn't really help.

If it doesn't smell like gear oil it isn't gear oil. Gear oil smells like gear oil and that's it. Are you sure it isn't engine oil leaking out of the starter cavity? There's a "mystery hole" in that cavity for this reason. If its comin from there it's likely that the oring on the snout of your starter is damaged. It's also possible that you've too much oil in the engine. If so it will find the weakest gaskets in your engine and push its way out. It's also possible that your petcock has failed (I know you said you left it on prime and it filled your cases with gas, but did you leave it on prime or is your petcock leaking??) and filled your cases with gas again...

its the small vent above the trans...my petcock is never on prime...and ive never filled the crank case with gas...ive replace the o ring...the oil is on the full mark

Hi,

It sounds like you're describing the breather for the bevel gear case. If the seal has failed, engine oil could be forced into the bevel gear area and then it overflows out through the breather's drain hose into the starter cavity and finally exits out of the "mysery hole". I think this repair requires splitting the case. Inconvenient. :(

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Have you washed you bike recently? When I used to do that my secondary drive would puke oil just like yours. Washing the bike results with drain water in the starter cavity, the drain hose for the breater is down there. Water get's sucked up the vent line and overflows the secondary drive, when you ride the bike, you warm everything up, that and the pressure gets your bike all dirty. If the bike is warm you can suck up a good amount of water as the engine cools. Replace the drain line and run it through the mystery hole, I tied it up to the kick stand bracket so it wont flop around. Drain and fill the secondary drive with new oil. Problem solved and on more oil loss.
