    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm I'm trying a new tach/speedo on my '78 GS550, the Trail Tech Vapor. Works great and weighs next to nothing, but doesn't look too traditional. Oh, well, function is more important, I guess. Now I finally know exactly how fast I'm going.

Here's the front. I used a couple of Radio Shack project boxes to conceal the idiot lights and wires.

How does it connect to the bike? What kind of bike is this on? Interested to see more of a writeup for it.
 
Thanks for your interest. It uses a magnetic speed sensor on the fork leg or swing arm, and a magnet on a brake disk bolt. It's wired to the bike and runs on 12V. Very accurate, good backlight, lots of useful data and much less weight than the stock speedo.

My speedo, which was never accurate, developed a wobbly needle, so I gave up on the whole thing and switched to this, which I've seen on everything from SV650s to cafe racers. It's designed for off-road bikes and ATVs, but works well in my application.

Costs about $120 new for the complete system, but I got mine from eBay for $20 and had to order the wheel sensor and wiring from Trail Tech for another $45.

THis can also be done with a bicycle speedometer very effectively and cheap
 
Saw a lot of these on street legal ATVs in Wyoming. Cool idea. Only thing better would be an integrated GPS speedo. At that point, you might as well buy a gold wing though.
 
That is niffty, I like the clean, minimilist look of the unit.
I see they do a GPS, would be nice if the offered each version in half size, then you could mount the GPS next to the gauges, OEM style, and have all the toys.
 
I am about to do the same thing with my GSX750ES, I am going to go with the Indicator dashboard as well, this will give me a surround with the idiot lights. I am also thinking about the fuel guage as well.
 
I really like how that cleans up the looks of the cockpit. Nicely done!

I may have to look into one of these for my bike at some point.
 
Vary nice, I liked your old set up as well that I saw in another thred. My tach is not working and I'm looking into both ideas. Vary clean looking too.
 
i saw these online and thought about getting one for a future project. :)
