    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So, I have been re-routing my wires basically stock since I pulled the harness to clean. I have some liquid electric tape (Kind of a nifty invention if I do say so myself) to clean up some of the missing areas of tape which I have been doing the past few times I have been working on the bike (When I have the time, I will go through the whole loom and put shrink wrap on as much as possible).
I just have some questions I want to be sure about:
- If I try to start it, just to see if my starter button works, without my carbs on it could something potentially dangerous or bad happen to the bike?
- What are the advantages of upgrading to dyna coils from stock coils? (my idea for this bike is a cafe racer and will have, briefly, upped main jets soon replaced by stage 3 kit, pods, and 4-1) Also, what ohm would be correct? I looked in the manual and only gave ignition timing. I have read the 3ohm coils could burn points (I honestly don't know what that means, but sounds bad :rolleyes:)
- Solid vs suppression wires?
- I want to get a gel battery so I can eventually mount it how I want relocating it eventually under the rear fender. Are there any problems you have had with gel batteries? I was thinking about getting this to try out.

No problem, as long as there is nothing in the intake tubes that might be sucked into the engine.

Higer voltage, better spark.

Yes, 3-ohm coils can burn points, but your bike does not have points, so get the 3-ohm coils. If you are getting Dyna coils, they are green.

- Solid vs suppression wires?
You will need suppression somewhere in the system. The parts in question are the wires, the caps and the plugs. Stock wires are solid, caps are suppressor, plugs are non-suppressor. You can also get suppressor wires and plugs, but you only want ONE suppressed item in the line.

I have never used a "gel" battery. Many times, what is advertised as a "gel" battery is simply a sealed battery. With older technology (things might have changed), a true "gel" battery would have proper voltage, but would not have cranking capacity.

I was thinking about getting this to try out.
That one is advertised as a "gel", would be interesting to open it up to see if it is truly a gel battery or merely an AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery that is using a more-familiar term to promote it.
