    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Turn Switch Relay Problem?

Problem: Both turn signals initially work either before bike is started and/or after bike is started. However, after bike is running several minutes turn signals stop operating. Signals sometimes work after turning off bike and restarting. Furthermore, tapping turn switch relay with screw driver [sometimes several times] initiate active turn signals again.

Question: Is this indicative of a bad turn switch relay? ...or are there other issues?

Everything matters here.
Connections on the bulbs
All the grounds
and the relay.
I'd clean the grounds first and then the bulb and connector.
If it still is a problem replace the relay.

Yes, clean EVERY electrical connection and ground on the entire bike. All of those 30 year old connections need to be freshened up. Battery condition and charging system condition have a lot to do with blinker behavior. Make sure your battery is fully charged and test the charging system. Testing procedures can be found in the links below.

If you're tapping the relay and it temporarily works, it means you turn relay is faulty.

I've been threw this with my 650.

Yes, technically it Could be dirty wiring, but why waste your time?
Just goto Autozone or any parts store and buy a 3 prong turn signal flasher Unit.
They usually cost around $10.

And get yourself a simple wire/connector kit, so you can connect the wires to the new flasher relay.

Do NOT goto the suzuki dealer, they will want $80 for a crappy stock relay!

These relays are notorious for being faulty, on these suzukis.
 
Update: After: (1) testing battery; (2) cleaning battery grounds thoroughly [though grounds did not appear dirty/corroded]; and (3) a 70 mile country-road ride, problem did not reproduce itself. So, I'm optimistically reserved.

Note: For readers of this forum at large [and those specific to issue], problem occurred after proper "blinking" of lights when either the engine was "on" or "off". I note the turn lights themselves turned "off" [and remained so] when the problem occurred.
