If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Twisted my crank?

:) Got Cam chain & Gasket set from Partsnmore
Cluch guts from DennisKirk
Oil seals from local dealer (in-stock, wow).

Still looking for rings, I'll try Bikebandit.

Falicon has my crank and said it should take about a week or two
so I should make my trip to Lake George.

Thanks all for the help. :)

I haven't got an exact price but they sent me a catalogue. Looks like it will be around $300 + to inspect, straighten and weld it.

I hope they don`t call you as they have me before. I have sent cranks that I know were good...they came back in a box disassembled and I was told they were unrepairable. I sent them to another race shop and ran them for years. Crap like that has really hurt falicon. They have since been sold so I do not know how the new owners operate.

Good news, Falicon can re-index and weld my crankshaft.
No problems, It's gonna cost $378 plus shipping. They said
it should be done in a couple days.

There's a lesson in this for all. If you see fuel dripping out
the overflow or airbox drain, REMOVE THE SPARKPLUGS
before you turn over the engine. It could cost alot of money
and time.

The only good thing to come of all this is I got a chance to
tear the engine down and learned alot about where I can
get parts and services to make the engine go really fast
if I ever decided too.

update

:) Got all the parts, bottom end is together. Took the time to polish the intake ports. Will install the new rings and put the top end together tonight.
Got parts from: Dennis Kirk, PartsNmore, Bikebandit, local dealer and Crank re-indexed & welded by Falcion.

Looks like I'll make Lake George (americade) after all, as long as the bike runs after it's all together.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice.

:( Well, going to Lake George on a Yamaha XJ650 (buddies extra bike).

The GS won't stop smoking, uses a quart of oil in 100 miles.
Replaced the valve seals, honed the cylinders. Rings just
won't seat in. Falicon crank work is good.

I ran 200 miles at 2500 to 3500 rpm (very difficult). By doing
that I toasted the RR or battery, Stator puts out most voltage
at that rpm. Will figure that out later.

Going to have it bored oversize and get new pistons.
Guess I'll have the valves and seats done too.

Hey Hap, what pistons do you use in your GS?

Anybody want to buy a 81 GS1100ex?

before you overbore check and make sure the oil rings are right. The ends should just be touching each other and not overlapped. I'll try to post a picture if you need it to understand what I'm talking about.

dgeorge,

I would like to see the picture. I'm going to get another set of rings
and lightly hone the cylinders again. I checked the gap on the top rings
and they were right to spec in different spots in the cylinders. I did
trim the oil ring spacer but didn't check the oil rings.

Compression is: 165,155,155,165
I have the oil leak narrowed down to cyl#1 mostly and
a little in #2. Cyl#3&4 plugs look good but 1&2 are oil fouled.
Other than the oil burning, the engine is running great.

Got it, :D When I replaced the rings, the book told me to trim the scraper ring spacer to prevent overlap. So I did. This prevented the spacer from putting outward tension on the scraper rings causing the oil to blow right on by.

I got another set of rings and didn't trim the spacer this time. Now they fit nice and snug. I haven't started it up yet but I'm sure it will be fine.

$700.00 project. Extra $200.00 for another set of rings and top end gasket set because of the ring screwup.

I'm glad I did it all myself, learned alot about the GS engine.

Anybody need a GS engine rebuilt?
