A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tyre / Tire Choices

So the Metzeler Sportec Klassik? I need a new front tire and I'm just going to upgrade the back also, I have a Dunlop D404 (R) and a Pirelli sport demon (F) had to buy a different tire on a trip 800 miles from home. My question is will the Sportec last longer than the Avons in all generally? I get it that my riding style can wear on tires but head to head? The local tire guy offers Avons for $150R/$125F and the Metzeler is $175R/$170F. I just want to know if the extra cost is worth it? I see everyone loves the Avon RR's..... well, post the 2013 non-cracking tires but new tires with new technology ie the Metzelers have me intrigued

The Metzeler Klassiks are very new -- first released in 2015 and I don't think they became available in the US until this year.

So there's not a lot of info yet. You could be the first! Unless it'll put you on ramen noodles and baloney sandwiches, why not order a pair, give 'em a thrashing, and report back in the name of Science?

I'm sure they're great tires, but they are arse-crampingly expensive, as per standard Metzeler practice. However, there is a Metzeler rebate offer out there -- not sure if it covers these tires. The size range is somewhat limited, but they do come in 130/90-17 rear and 100/90-19 front. (No 16" rears for the L models, though.)

About time -- Metzeler's old Lasertec and ME models were getting seriously outdated.

In any case, there's no data yet on whether they outlast the Avon RoadRiders.

The Avon RoadRiders are the only tire I've tried on my GS where I can run two rear tires for each front with no issues. And they don't turn evil as they wear, like many lesser tires -- the handling stays great up to the very end. Plus they're a good bit less expensive than alternates from Bridgestone, Michelin, and now Metzeler.

Even up against much cheaper Shinko tires that don't last nearly as long, I've found that cost per mile for the Avons is much lower.

I do like ramen noodles and baloney.....:-k
that being said I just somehow have to justify the extra price difference to the boss....she really decides what my budget is. I will decide and report back

It's for SCIENCE! :encouragement:

well Bwringer,
I beg and pleaded with her and showed her some science/physics videos such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KYTJ8tBoZ8 I explained that this would not be possible if I did not get new tires. She finally said yes, so the new metzelers are on their way hope to get them next week ;)

I made a thread in the tire section for the metzlers please see that and I will keep it updates as the tires wear
