A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Upgrade or not

After reading several posts about coil relay mod, dyna/accel coil upgrade, dyna s/2000 ignition, I was considering doing some upgrading.

However, with the exception of the plug caps which are begining to crack, everything is working and testing normally on the 83 1100e

I know basscliff recently changed out his plug caps and is running stock coils, but would i notice a better spark with the dyna or accel coils, or would it be more of a piece of mind thing, having new coils.

Budget minded I would consider the the coil relay mod with aftermarket coils if it would noticebly improve idle etc... and save the ignition upgrade untill the stock one shot craps.

Or for $15 just change the plugcaps and call it good.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Nic

Measure the voltage to your coils with the engine running. Compare the voltage from the Battery(+) to the Coil (+) O/W wire. If it is more than say 1.5V I would do the coil relay mod.

For a 12.8V battery that would be 11.3V ; my GS1100ED was a hard start at 10.5V.

Hot coils are always nice, but the DynaS is not necessary unless you have problems.

Thanks Pos, I'm at 11V to the coils running, with a fully charged/new battery.

If i can find the coils at a good price I'll probably go that route.

So how much of a voltage drop is that?

With hot coils and fresh motor 10.5V cold alot of times needed starter fluid. With the coil relay mod it is now instant on.

The guy we just helped (di&Khead NOS) has about a 2V drop with an 8V motor which remarkably did start, but he had huge power cutout at anything above 1/3 throttle.
