1100 motor W/1168 kit
1150 head
36mm carbs from 90gsxr

What a big difference these little mods made for my street bike!

 8O :P

Now that's what I'm talking about :!:

Yeap spend a grand and get a little hotrod. Still cheaper than buying a used Bandit. Plus there's more still out there for you.

how much did ya pay for the carbs did they bolt right up? are they flatslides? im lookin to get a nice set for my 83.

My plan is:

1100/1197 kit (JE 10.25:1)
1150 head
GSXR 36mm carbs (89)

I have been accumulating parts but haven't started it yet. I want Hoomie to get a head start so he finishes up before me.

Check ebay for carb prices there are a few every month. I think up to 91 or 92 will fit but not sure what year they changed the spacing. Do a search there are plenty of threads about the gsxr carb swaps.

I have 3 sets and I made 1 set for my bike. I'm gonna buy a few parts and make one more good set and sell them and keep the 3rd set for parts.

Bolted right on ( 1990 GSXR Carbs )

Filters are expensive ( RU-2922 K&N = $90.00 )

That 1168 kit is great. Me thinks 1260 would be better.

1260 is great but this is my street bike. I have a Turbo 1325 that is I'm just about to get back together in a better chassis. I had the motor in a stock chassis that was only raked a bit and it was just to much fun trying to keep it from spinning or flying..... :D

1150 head work

1150 head work

who is good/affordable for redoing an 1150 head? I am thinking oversize exhaust valves, minimal cleanup and otherwise leave it alone, don't want a big bucks race head but a good street setup.

Stock 1150 cams, 1327 cc.

Have you dynoed it yet?
Are the carbs closer to the tank with the 1150 head?

bud, oversize valves are big bucks. Money that could be spent for more hp increases than valves. They are the last thing I would do to get anoter 1/8th out of the 1/4.

Spend the cash on carbs and cams

If your not looking to do crazy porting maybe you could find someone local to help you out. I found a local car guy that was willing to buy the cutters. I save on all the shipping costs and he does the valve job for $200. We turned a bunch of the local bike guys on to him. Some of the heads he's done have gone 8.20's all motor. Another guy had him do the valve job on his 1150 head. He's running 8.60's on a high compression 1198 cc GS motor in a conversion chassi.

I see your point, but you really can't compare the two. Stock 1157cc displacement with decent suspension (43mm tubes) and modern wheels/brakes. All the Bandit needs is a pipe, jet kit and GSXR cams to really make it go- 120bhp.

Guys are getting 150 bhp out of the stock 36mm carbs with a 1216 cc kit. And she is gonna handle better than any GS on skinny bias tires.

Not to mention, she sure is purty.

They sure are and I see your point too. You got to build what you have :D I was thinking of picking one up last year for 3K but decided not to.

We got a guy down here that has run as fast as 6.57 in the 1/8 and that's oem tire and no bars. I think all he's done is move the tire back as far as it could go and swap the cams. Gearing ? not to sure on that on but he is a good rider.

Can I use the 1150 head on a 1100 motor with the Wiseco K1168 kit?
1150 head has bigger valves and a different valve angle, am I right?
I mean that those pistons have "pockets" for stock valves, will those bigger 1150 valves hit my pistons? I'm not gonna be using stock cams.

Thats what I have in mine. You just have to get the 1150 stud kit from APE or whoever you like. I opened up my exhaust ports a little and it does have bigger intakes. No problems with valve clearance. Throw on some 36mm carbs and use the 1150 cams and you'll be surprised in the
power. You will lose you mechanical tach......

bandit vs GS

bandit vs GS

say Ed: I was lucky enough to pick up an 01 Bandit 12 for small bucks last year, and it is more motorcycle than a stock GS in most ways- suspension/ tires/ wheels/ brakes/ smooth /quiet etc etc- , but I have left it stock as it is a great street bike and I don't have to f' with it to go when I want to. Pipe/jets/ and more can get more peak, but the wide flat torque curve is what is so nice about it - that is the best feature of the GS, no?

GSs make much better hot rods, in my garage anyway, and my mild 1150 runs right with the Bandit, at least up past 100 or until the road gets curvy. I have more confidence in the GS bottom end and the GS just pulls very hard from waaay down in the rpms and keeps pulling like a humongous rubber band. The Bandit wants more shifting than the GS on a typical winding road. GSXR cams and you'd be shifting even more. Well tuned GS1150 with a pipe you can leave in 3rd or 4th and just go.

One juvenile delinquent point in favor of the GS: A squid on a naked Ducati pissed me off on Highway 1 in Northern California a while back by making a loud, stupid pass while we were cooling it thru a small town (Marshall, for those familiar with that turf). Once out of town I chased him down and kept showing him my front wheel on the inside of turns, until I got bored with it and backed off. He was passable but I didn't want him in back of me. I am far from juvenile these days, just an old fart delinquent I guess, but this is serious fun and the flat power curve makes it easy.

Doesn't prove much, but guys on modern sportbikes can sure be easily fooled by a stock looking, maybe even ratty looking GS. my kind of fun...
