    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Useful Load Rating for 83 GS650

Before I start adding any saddlebags, sissy bar bags and a passenger, does anyone know the useful load rating specs for a '83 GS650? Or do I just load her up until the rear springs scream. :twisted:
 
With all the GS experience in this forum, can no one give me an idea of the weight a GS650 can handle? :roll:
 
I just went back and forth through my owners manual for my 83 GS850 but nowhere does it mention maximum load. You might find the maximum load on this site http://www.suzukicycles.org It's the only site that came up when I did a goggle search of "GS850"+"maximum load" (nothing came up when I put 650 in). BTW....I've been to the Harrisburg area a few times and every time I wished I had my motorcycle with me. You've got some great roads out there.
 
I've been running into the same wall. Everywhere I search, no one gives the specs for the bike's max load.

And the next time you?re in the Harrisburg area, with your bike, look me up and maybe we can get together a GS tour of the capital area. 8)
 
It should be listed on the VIN sticker right next to tire sizes and such. GVWR is Gross Vehicle Weight something. That is the safe working load for the bike with those tires.
 
the gross vehicle weight rating for a gs1000G is 1112 lbs so your 650 would be slightly less
 
The GVWR is the total weight of the bike and its load. You need to subtract the weight of the bike with oil and gas from the GVWR to get the useful load weight. If the bike GVWR is 900 lbs. and it weighs 485 lbs. then your load (you, your passenger, and your luggage) should not exceed 415 lbs.
