    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Okay man, just trying to help. You seem to know better than me. First thing I do with any new GS purchase is change the intake boot O-rings and adjust the valves. As soon as the bike is running I do a vacuum sync. Also, make sure the coils have proper voltage.

fair enough, thats what i needed to hear... im going to order up some new o-rings, a new valve cover gasket and get to adjusting those bad boys...
i was dreading having to do it myself becuase i've never done it before... one of the reasons i was happy when the PO told me he just it was just done...

i believe i need some specialty tools and shims correct?

here in a couple hours im going to order everything so if you know of a good place to get all this stuff from i would greatly appreciate it! and if you have any pointers on the process they would also be very appreciated

Call Z1 Enterprises in the morning. They will have everything that you need.
Also tell them what you have and what you are trying to do. They offer great advice as they know these bikes. ;)

Look on BassCliff's web site for adjusting the valves. IIRC they use zip ties or something instead of a specialty tool to lift the cam. (My bike has screw and nut adjusters, so I don't shim.)
 
so i pulled the intake boots off (nightmare) half of the screws were already stripped and the other half were rusted in place so bad that even after using penetrating oil and a butane torch back and forth several times AND using vice grips i still managed to break off two of the screw heads...

so now i have that fun mess to take care of... but after FINALLY getting all 4 boots off i realized that even though the boots themselves weren't in bad shape the o-rings were falling apart.. smashed flat and breaking up, whole sections were missing...

so i need new o-rings.... and unfortunately some new intake boots... kindof destroyed two of them in the removal process...

looking around i have found the o-rings and updated allen screws... and also the actual intake boots... unfortunately, what im seeing is that they are about $150 new... seriously??? please inform me if im wrong but most sites either dont carry them or they are crazy expensive...

does anyone know where i can get them cheaper???

please tell me i can get a set of four for 80 or less and i will be thrilled...

also, i just made a new Album and uploaded a bunch of pics of my 1100... its 95% cosmetically finished... a weekend of polishing and buffing, and a few other odds and ends and its basically done... tell me what you think!!!

Part Shark has cheap part prices, but it will cost you more than $80.

And your lesson of the day is short cuts are long cuts.
 
well kinda, even if i would have done this when i first got the bike i still would have damaged the boots and snapped off the screw heads... i took my time with it, used generous amounts of PB blaster alternating with a butane torch, trying to rapidly heat and cool the screws to help break them loose, lastly giving them a few taps with a hammer to jolt them free. :-k

first trying with a phillips screwdriver, if that didnt work i broke out the dremmel tool to cut notches for a large flathead... if THAT didnt work i would try breaking them free with the vice-grips, and lastly i broke out the cobalt drill bits and bolt extractors... :-k

got them all out but two... and the two that i broke broke off were the very last two, especially rusty screws too, pretty chewed up and REALLY tight, and i broke them on the first extraction attempt using the phillips head... so i tried my best... :o

but then again i did damage two of the boots while working on everything, one caught the dremmel tool, and the other kind of spontaneously combusted from the mixture of PB blaster and butane... :eek:

so yea, i guess you could say lesson learned. :D

and thanks alot Nessism, i have been looking quite a bit at parts the past couple hours and those are the cheapest i've seen, im just gunna bite the bullet and order em up now. hopefully get them by the end of this week.
