Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello all,

Does anyone know if there is a way to post sound clips on this site? I would love to hear a sound clip of a V&H 4-1 system on a ~80 GS1000E. I hope someday to have enough clams to put that system on my ride, but untill then it'd be cool to hear someone else's setup.
(btw, I've found some sites selling the V&H pipes that give a sound clip, but I really want to hear what a similar GS would sound like; not just the generic idea)

Shoot me a PM. I'm in Sandy. You're welcome to come down to SLC and hear the V&H system first hand on my '80 GS1000E. :D

music to my ears!

I dare anyone to find a more friendly group of enthusiasts than the folks on this site. Sounds great! \\:D/

On the flip side, I've never heard a GS1000 *without* a 4 into 1 exhaust system. My bike already had the V&H installed when I bought it. Anyone have a clip of a GS1000 with the stock exhaust?

Biker326 - Welcome to the board. It's cool to know there's another Utahn enjoying our twisty mountain roads on a GS1000E. :D Where do you like to ride? The picture in my signature is from the Mirror Lake Highway - ever ridden that?

I grew up in south-central Utah, and just recently moved up here so I'm not very familiar with the good rides in this area. I certainly do know the mirror lake highway though and now that my old GS has found her legs again (long story) that is a ride I'd love to take asap. Just my luck though that i get things put together on the bike just in time for winter to set in.
Some of my favorite rides down south are the Fishlake loop, Fairview canyon, Hwy24(?) through capitol reef, and the escalante "devils backbone"- definitely a must for "twisties" and for the sheer drop off either side! 8-[
Anyway, didn't mean to write an essay about it; thanks for the welcome.

OK, you guys make me sick! I have been looking forever for a 4into 1 for my 650 and have had no luck at all, unless I want a new mac system for 300 bucks! It probably wouldnt look good on my "L" anyway.Time for a bigger bike I guess.

I put a set of stock 4-2 pipes from a '91 GSXR1100 on my '83 GS750ES, after reading about the swap on someone's personal site. The aesthetic results weren't bad, although the mufflers stuck out a bit farther on the side than I'd like, reducing ground clearance while cornering.

But it sounded like a freakin' sewing machine!!! Imagine a 49cc 4-stroke scooter with a little bit more top-end noise. In other words, all I heard was engine until I got up to about 8-grand, where it made the slightest pretense of being a sportbike.....

Not identical to your situation, and your stock pipes would probably be a bit louder as the mufflers are smaller than the gixxer's, but I doubt they'd make a sound that would even hint at the performance they concealed.

But the most pimp-sounding thing I ever heard was when I ran the 'zook for a few minutes with an open header - almost sounded like a GP bike! A close second would have to be the Staintune pipe I've got on my VFR. Just something about a free-flowing pipe on a V4...

I'm leaning lately towards leaving the installed V&H 4 into 1 header in place, fabbing up a midpipe and mounting brackets, and then installing a modern sportbike canister muffler for better ground clearance and a more modern look. Gotta install rearsets too so that the upswept pipe doesn't conflict with the existing footpegs and controls.

Something like this:

I gots to get one of those when I get mine running right sounds good.

It's basically a straight pipe. I am going to see what I can do to baffle a touch as it tends to be a touch loud for long drives.

I had the same problem with my 650, so I bought an 1100 =P~

This thread is so cool - everybody should post a sound clip or video. I'm going to see if I can figure out how to get one on here of my bike (hindle exhaust). Seeing how it's 11pm, I should probably wait though...:-D

I had a Mac that I got used, but didn't like it so I found a Kerker and put that on. If I bought a new megaphone system it would be the Vance and Hines. I probably will just chop my Kerker, have a mid-pipe fabbed and use a D&D canister that I have.

For a new megaphone four into one, I really like that V&H, though!
