A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

PLEASE don't mix SAE hardware into the bike.

yes dowl holes take the longer bolts...
That would be the right hole, but I did not see any dowels in the parts fiche.

Are you sure you have the right bolt in there? :-k

There are 14 bolts that are M6x40 and three that are M6x45. Not sure which one is supposed to be in that hole, but if you have one of the short ones there and it's supposed to be a longer one, it would easily strip the one or two threads that it happened to engage.

Yes, a Heli-Coil will do a great job of repairing a stripped hole.

14 + 3 only adds up to 17. Maybe I don't need this one woo!

Here is a pic of the culprit. But you're right, it is only one of the 40mm ones. Let's consult the factory manual where those shorties need to go... Clearly I have a lot of learning to do about these old bikes. Oh and PS, thanks for the spreadsheet, it's perfect

steve did not disappoint..hehe
with the VC sitting in place...
drop all the bolts into each hole.
if they are correct then you should have similar thread amounts showing.
if not,
swap till you do.

Good news guys. I took out every one of those bolts, compared it to my 40mm one I had out, and reinstalled it if it was 40mm. To my surprise I only found ONE bolt that was 45mm... It was the third to last one I checked too, so yes I pulled all 17 and replaced them (not including the one I already had out).

I put the 45mm one in the hole I had stripped and it bit wonderfully. I'll keep an eye on it and go pickup three more of those 45mm bolts (although I only saw two holes with dowels so maybe I only need 1 more)
