    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

valve clearance

Have some questions about the feeler gauge and checkin clearances... So i have this feeler gauge. Am i to assume that anywhere in between.038mm and .102mm
Is alright clearance i guess im just not understanding the inch to metric20160712_113659.jpg
 
You pretty much have it right, but since those feelers are made to inch specifications, it will be better to use the inch numbers.

Basically, that will be 1.5 to 4 thousandths or 0.0015" to 0.004".
Since you are getting involved in checking clearances, why not take advantage of the offer in my sig?

Sweet ive been rackin my brain and such for about an hour my clearance on #1 and #2 is.004 on ex side goin to check 3 and 4 next thanks steve!!!
 
Alright update i got the clearences for in and ex all were good at.004 ". So my reason for goin thru and chexkin is becuase in still having issues with smoking tail pipes and back firing thru my carbs im recheckin my timimg next and i will post pics
 
This is what i came up with.... I think my timing is off.... I turn engine clockwize until i came around to my timing mark noticed that the cam notches were not parallel with valve cover face so rotated clockwize until they were parallel and im thinking my t20160712_125727.jpgiming is off
 
You are not checking the timing correctly. Look in your manual for instructions.
 
Align 1-4 T on the crank and then look at the 1 mark on the exhaust cam.
 
You're good then. Don't worry about the notches.
