I just got off the phone with my local Suzuki dealer and they want $67.00 for a valve cover gasket for my 1982 850GLZ. Does that sound expensive?
I need to get rear brake shoes also.. wondering if anybody has had luck getting the right gaskets from an on line source?
Thanks for replies
Mike

My valve cover gasket (for a 16 valve motor) cost $30. You could check bike bandit for a comparison.

Outrageous. Look on e-bay. Or buy an entire engine gasket kit from Dennis Kirk- your bound to need them anyway. That gasket should be $15 or so.

You might check these folks too www.realgaskets.com.
Going to be more expensive then the paper ones but in theory you shouldn't have to buy another one.
Anybody else use these? How have they held up?

....and I think the cam cover gasket for the 83-85 750/700 is a neoprene (vs. paper) gasket, which you would think would be more expensive. I would check the fiche on BikeBandit for the part number (and their price), then use the part number to check www.ronayers.com for their price, also.

This is from one of my earlier threads.

This is what I am looking to replace. I got this from bikebandit.

11141-49002 Cylinder Head Gasket $63.42
09241-23002 Cylinder Plug $3.52 X 4
11174-45000 Side Cap $16.62
02132-05127 Screw $1.02 X 2
11173-45002 Valve Cover Gasket $24.48

Even with shipping charges, $24.48 is a lot less than $67 (learned my math from Nick Diaz  ).

The numbers of the cylinder head and valve covers say they have been superceded by new numbers that I couldn?t get to work. But you could call Ron Ayers and it should save you some money.

CYL HD COVER CA

Part Number: 11174-49000
Description: CYL HD COVER CA
Price: $11.31

Dennis Kirk is less than $100 for a complete gasket set.

I paid $24.51 last November for a valve cover gasket for my GK. It wasn't a Suzuki item, but it works just fine.

I put one of these gaskets on my 1100 in an attempt to stop the oil seepage at the front of the motor...it stopped it completely! It also has a warrenty for as long as you own the bike. The best part is that I will no longer be scraping valve cover gasket material off. It was $24.95 plus shipping and worth every penny.

Thanks Guys

Thanks Guys

I knew that yet again the folks on this board would come to the rescue and help me find a proven solution. Nothing like levereging on the experience of others. I'm gonna go ahead and order one of those new fangled ones from gaskets r us, I mean Real Gaskets.com
I appreciate the help!

if you soak the gasket in new clean motor oil before you assemble the cover, the gasket can be carefully removed intact and re-used numerous times, just re-oil and install

I found a complete set of OEM Suzuki gaskets on ebay
for my GS1000 for $35 plus S&H.
I've seen many valve cover gaskets GS's in the 10-15$ range

Darn!

Darn!

Tried "Real Gaskets.com" they do not have one for the year/style of my bike.
grrrrrrrrrrr

Sounds like he gave you a price for head gasket, not valve cover gasket.
My bike is going on the trailer this morning to have both valve cover gasket and head gasket replaced.

I don't have the price yet, the mechanic that's doing the work is very fair.
He also rides an S, with a side car.

What's worse, is trying to find a headlight for a GS450...

Odd sized bucket, etc...

$50-60 for a LIGHT...

So I rigged a halogen auto bulb inside the old sealed-beam bulb, which is now my reflector/bulb holder...

If you type the original part number into the Ron Ayers 'part number' box on their website, it produces the correct updated part number for you and gives you a price.
I don't think you can beat their prices.
