A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

valve seal removal video

What the heck is the need for the propane torch? Put that darn thing away! All your going to do is smoke up the place and have the need to clean to old sticky burnt rubber off the valve guides.

This sent to us from our very own ERIC BANG
He has been kicked off of here more than once. :-\\\

How does he still qualify as "our very own"?

I'm with Rusty, though. Even though it may work, you then have more work to do to clean up the burnt rubber.
I would rather wiggle it a few times and pull it off cleanly. :D

.

I think the operative thing here is to get the rubber "softened up" but not to a point of melting...then they should slip off without any residue left behind. Then a swipe with a green scrubbie around them to polish them up.

He is our very own because he is still here reading but not posting. He is here now, tomorrow, and forever..done and done. There is no way around that aspect, so I dont know what else to say.

Think about it a second...why would he send me an email with a link about VALVE STEM SEALS that just happens to coincide with the guy asking about how to remove them??

Most times the seals will pull off fairly easily. Sometimes they will be a little more testing. And on rarer occasions they can be pigs - that's when I get the gas torch comes out.

If you burn any rubber it wipes of very easily.

Because he is a pest that e-mails several of us with similar links.

He has also been trying to 'stir the pot' with me, I refuse to play along. :p

Rather than the danger & cost of a torch rig, a regular blow dryer will do the same thing without the need or experience required for fire. Ray.

True, True... but can you also light your cigarette with the blow dryer?:p

I can light all the cigarettes that I need with my bare finger. :p

.

Same here but I notice he always has one hanging out of his head in these videos. Reminds me of some old mechanics I know.

I'm that guy, wish I saw the video before breaking one of my valve guides getting the blasted things out!

I like Eric's videos.....hes friggin weird and funny. I know he is public enemy #1 around here for various reasons/ opinions......I know his valve adjustment method just irritates the crap out of some on here. Lol
I talked on the phone with him a few months ago or so.....he walked me through a number of various procedures. He sure is a talker.haha..but a nice guy as far as I know.
Anyways...I must have been lucky with my 1100e seals because they pulled out easily with pliars. Pop. Done.
Also WShie......Im not sure your experience/ or what bike you have but I successfully did a top end rebuild on my 1100 if you need a hand or second opinion/ cylinder hone/ valve lapper and compound.
Or to ride. Im only 40 minutes east of downtown Cleve. and have time to screw off right now. Haha
