A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

White smoke from exhaust, burning oil. Its not alot just enough to notice. Im assuming the valve stem seals? Posting this just in case im missing something.

Does the smoke happen at start up then go away?

Smoke on decel?

What's warm compression?

re

re

Ive been riding it for 4 months and the first its been doing this. It smokes under moderate to heavy throttle only. Its never been sitting. Always been running.

Also pretty sure its not piston rings. Too much power and to smooth running. No tools for compression check.

You can have weak rings and still have good power and smooth running.

It has been my experience that, if an engine smokes under "moderate to heavy throttle", the oil is getting past the rings.
If it smokes while decelerating or at idle (high vacuum situations), it's more likely to be valve seals.

.

When the carb butterflies are closed the engine will pull oil through old valve stem seals. If it smokes with accel then more than likely it's rings.
Or too rich as stated.
Are the spark plugs shiny black or flat black?

re plugs

re plugs

Flat black. Seems to be some metal build up on them as well. only cylinder #1

re

re

anything that might cause over heating of the engine? other than the obvious? oil flow is good. pods with 120 mains. Bad plugs?

Blue smoke is oil burning, white smoke is condensation burning off from the exhaust.
A wise man told me that for every gallon of gas burnt there is a gallon of water run through the engine and out the pipe.

White smoke is also typically unburnt fuel, what is your oil level? is there gas in your oil?

Oil was just changed, carbs dont leak. So I dont think theres any gas in there. Normally I would think it was the water or just a random event but its only out of cylinder one.

Engine only has round 25k on it which is why I was so skeptical about it being the rings. Unless it had a hard as **** life before me.

25K might be factory fresh for a car engine but for a bike it could easily need rings, especially if it was idled in traffic for long periods, or oil was bad on it. The best thing to do is take a compression test on the engine when hot.
