    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What does everyone do with this spaghetti junction of rubber hoses?

Presumably they are just bowl drains in which case they can be removed.

Also I believe these vent tube with red arrows are removed when fitting a DJ kit correct?

Also I read in the clean-up series about the dangers of disturbing "sleeve type" T pieces & fuel tubes.... It looks to me like I have them, can anyone confirm?
If I do have them what is the best way to proceed to clean them up? Just dip the whole lot without separating the rack?

P.s. Rob if you look at this.... did you put that filter on or was it already there? Seems it was likely interfering with the throttle mech as both cables & throttle mech are nice & free when not connected to each other!
 
You should seperate the carbs - don't dip the rubber parts. That rack looks really clean, most likely you will be okay regarding the joining parts.
 
Hi Dan, The hoses all going to the right place in that pic, they just run to the carbs and down behind the motor through the square.

As for the filter, I put it on there but that shouldn't affect the throttle cables at all. It's not in the way, and it should pivot out of any interference. Take the cables off of the bike and lube them real good before you put it back together.

As for the fuel tees, I played with fire and took mine apart. At first the center one seemed to leak, but now it's not, so either it wasn't leaking or it's swollen up from the alcohol in the gas. Don't dip the carbs in carb dip with those rubber parts in them, it will destroy the rubber. There are a number of solutions on here for sealing them, including teflon tape and extra o-rings on the ends.
 
I agree with Nessism. Pull the carbs off the rack, the "T" fuel inlet will pull out OK. The metal parts that protrude into each carb have a rubber covering and when I pulled mine out last night the rubber bits with the "O" ring type form were in great condition. And my carbs are over 30 years old and no doubt have been pulled apart a number of times. So these bits have been "in" and "out" without any wear or damage over the years. When I pulled the carbs apart I found a lot of white crusty formation in the part of the carb where the "T" tubes and the other tubes go to feed fuel into the carbs. Don't know how fuel was getting through. Don't know how bike was even running. BTW the two end tubes that join #1 & #2 and #3 & #4 on my 550 are made from aluminium with two "O" rings on each end. I notice on your carbs this same piece appears to be made from plastic. Hope this helps and gives confidence to pull them apart.
P.S. If these parts are damaged they can be purchased on-line. There is a dealer that makes them from brass. So don't be too concerned if they are damaged in any way. Rob Barr's kit has the new "O" rings to fit these pieces.

Thanks for the info. If those hoses are only float bowl drains I'm going to lose them.....

I have some spare fuel links & a tee from a set of CV's, wonder if they are the same length & diameter. It's another option if the worse happens anyway.
