    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Verify Bad Kill Switch

I have a 1978 GS750 project. After I bought it had some issues starting. After buying a "compatible" after market kill switch & discovering it was not compatible (unless you were a whiz at modifying electrical, which I am not) I ripped open the old switch & resoldered an obviously loose connection (duh) & it worked great. After putting it down to avoid smashing into a pickup (and recovering from broken heel bone), checked everything out. Other than minor cosmetics bike was great. Got it fired up & ran it down the neighborhood street. Rode perfect. After parking it, was unable to start it again. Re-checked switch & had some loose connections again plus battery didn't seem to be charging. Replaced battery, re-soldered connections in switch, replaced solenoid. Bike will crank when hot wired. Am getting no voltage from orange/white wire in headlight bucket. (Has a green 3 prong connector in headlight bucket with an orange, orange/white & yellow/green wire running through it). When I put the meter on the orange/white wire inside the kill switch I get 8-9 volts. Push the starter button & nothing, no click at solenoid. Is there a way to know for sure if it's the kill switch? Or is someone who is good with electrical (the one thing I'm not great with) able to tell from the info I have given here that it's the kill switch/starter button switch? My preliminary diagnosis is yes. Have read a bazillion threads here, which got me to this point. Need this baby rolling for my peace of mind. Thanks
 
8-9 Volts is low. You should be seeing close to 12 V there. Check the voltage at either side of the third fuse and check the plug on the fusebox pigtail. Did you open out the kill switch and clean the contacts ?
Does that bike have a clutch lockout switch ? The green and yellow wire goes through the clutch switch to the starter relay if I'm looking at the right wiring diagram.
