    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

VHT vs Duplicolor Engine Paint

I was reading the VHT website and noticed that they are simple a division of Duplicolor. Now I was originally going to use VHT engine paints because I had read some positive reviews on here. Then I realized the local NAPA has the Duplicolor brand for less than the VHT and began to wonder if there is really a difference between the two. Does anyone have experience using both brands? Or is VHT simply re-branded Duplicolor with a higher price tag? If there is truly a quality difference I have no problem buying the VHT, but I don't like the idea of paying more for a can with flames printed on it versus not.

Duplicolor has excellent customer service, so I'd just give them a call if I were you. One time they even recommended a competitor's product for an application. May have been my luck on who answered the phone, but I was impressed.

Well I am going black, so matching isn't really an issue. And they are both ceramic engine enamels designed to resist heat. I am hoping that there are some folks on here with long-term reviews of how the paint holds up.
 
Hello:

I have used duplicolor clear to paint a polished engine case and the it did not hold up well at all. Hairline cracks like the kind seen on old ceramic glazes appeared and it started to flake.

I will use VHT next time if they make a clear.

Crazing is what that kind of cracking is called. VHT does make a clear, for in the future. Thanks for the input.
 
Checked the MSDS for the gloss blacks and clears, they are identical. So when purchasing VHT over Duplicolor, at least for these colors, you really are just paying more for packaging.
