A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone know where I can go to find the Informaiton about my 79 550 Frame and Motor? I have two different VIN#'s and they are the older ones. they are not the standard 17 (or so) digit VIN#'s. They are only about 9-10 digits. Every website i have been to, Even Carfax.com type websites have required the newer format. I wanted to verify exactly What year and What Model the Engine is.

Anyone?

I don't know of a source for engine numbers, but here is a site where you can check the frame number.
Please note that the engine and frame numbers virtually NEVER match. :o

.

Thanks for the information. That Image is a little bit hard to rad, but I might be able to get the Model letter for my GS550. Any idea where I can get the YEAR? Again, the dude I bought my biek off of said it was an 80, but I think it might be more along the lines of the 79 as ALL of the 79 Parts fit perfectly, and as far as I can tell, the 80 didn't have Spoke wheels... In fact, I'm not even sure if the 79 had spoke wheels. It could be that someone changed them out at some point. Who knows.

So, Any idea as to where to find the Year?

what are the last two digits of the model number? The last one tells the model year. For example "Z" means 1982.

VIN# GS550-119053
The closest thing I can find on the chart is GS550E-119692 which is letter code "N". I am assuming that I go by the first three numbers after the Model GS550 and match them up with the chart? Is that right?

thanks for your help!

I've got a several page PDF file with most model frame and engine numbers Suzuki has ever made. PM me if you want it. I'll PM BassCliff to see if he wants it for his website if he doesn't already if it. I didn't look.

1980 and back has a 11 digit vin (there are vehicles that used 9? digits). 1981 and forward has the 17 digit vin.

Hi,

You'll have to translate a few words like "Frame number", Engine number", etc. But there's a lot of information compiled on Michael's German GS site: http://www.gs-classic.de/index.htm

Here's a link directly to the chat of which Mr. Sandy speaks:

Michael and I have been in contact and are planning to share information. Maybe he can translate some of the great information on his site.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Nah. I was wrong with the number. I didn't have the VIN in front of me at the time, but I was pretty darned close! Thanks for the Response though! Sorry to confuse.
