Vintage yosh pipe

The pipe is in good shape, but it does have some dents you are going to have to live with; so a show piece it will never be. From the look of the down tubes it looks like it will survive sandblasting.

You will have to get used to dropping the entire header to change oil as well as loose your center stand. The pipe comes right down the center of the bike. This is basically a "race" pipe.

On the plus side, the pipe provides better ground clearance.

FYI I've been watching this since it came up. :o

Ive been watching it too....:D Pistols at dawn gentlemen?? LOL

OK guys, since there is so much interest and seeing as these would be my 4th backup Yoshi's I'll pass. I have a minimum bid in case you guys are real cheap though :o.

The last pipe I bought like this, I got on a day the market was crashing and it went off at $135+shipping IIRC. I got pi$$ed at the seller because he lied about the condition so even though I got them for the lowest price I've paid for a pipe, I had put in a max bid of over $300.

The can is kinda crappy and looks like the earliest type of Yoshi can I have seen. It looks like it will probably buff out and the seller already seems to have brillow padded it.

The mid pipe is dented and not likely to be removed but it probably faces down. Just sos you knows, all of these old Yoshi pipes have a 2 1/2" mid pipes. There is a aluminum collar riveted just above the rear hanger. The can is screwed to the collar. Therefore many cans will fit the same pipe.

These pipes are the race model; you loose the centerstand, you have to remove them to change oil, but they provide the best cornering ground clearance as they come straight down the middle and the down tubes are 1/8" size larger than the street pipe.

The elusive 4:2:1 is even better, but that is another story.

Sounds like the dented mid-pipe can be replaced - I could blast the header and have them ceramic coated, $200 job? Is there anything to be done about the dents on the bottom of the header? The one on the left looks a little wicked - I'm wondering if a muffler shop could expand them out??

Thanks for the info, by the way, very helpful, I'm debating doing this or finding and modding a 4:2:1 from a gsxr like you suggested. I love the look of both-

Those dents look pretty minor. I have seen cut and replacement pics but have never approached a muffler shop to do that type of work. I did an inquiry recently to an on-line shop and they did not do any 4 cycle pipes.

Pipe delivered $150
ceramic coat $200
mid pipe replace $75
Can Replace $100
--------------------
total $525

If I got that pipe it would be to just paint it with some high heat paint, either buff the can or get a replacement that is a little nicer.Total cost about $265 ($150+$100+$15 for paint)

Billy Ricks has a closeout SS 4:2:1 Hindle from a GSXR 750 coming that is only about $300 which would be a much better starting point if you want show quality.

That is the same pipe. Wow these things are coming out of the wood work. Not sure what to make of the silver paint, it is less dented but hard to tell what it looked like before.

yep the net is neat, if i remember right you might even be able to get a replacement wrap for that old can on ebay for about 20.00 or something? i have already bought a few parts from the donor bike this pipes off of and they were all in very good order so i imagine the pipes also in good shape. blast it and paint it black with header paint from the zone and your all set. cliff

No kidding, I'll probably go for that second silver pipe - better condition and not too far away. I've got a couple yosh cans that came with the bike, a 4:2 - can see them in my thread above. -chance I can use one of these?

another thing is this auction doesn't mention the yosh name in the title or anywhere in the description so it should be able to be had pretty cheap since the voulchers wont find it as easy.

Thanks 1978gscustom, will go for that pipe. Anyone here pick this one up? -auction just ended.

I bought it, I dont know why. I will try to pull the dents out of the header somewhat. I am not sure if I will use the pipe though. I wanted it for a gs1000 project but I might use a supertrapp can instead of the yoshimura one. I have to see when it arrives. I might of just wasted my money, but thats the norm.

Nice, glad someone here has it. Would be nice to see what you do with it.

Im am just going to probably pull some dents and re spray it black. It will be for a roadrace bike I am planing on building. It will be a few months before I start even working on it. Im just collecting parts slowly now. I definately did not buy it for appearance, but for clearance.

I had a business call at 3:45pm, so I lost by $2.50! I wanted it for the same reason.:p

I got the pipe in the mail today, WOW. Its in a lot better condition than I thought. The dents are very minor and I dont think would have any effect on performance. Is not that abd at all. The rest of the exhaust is in pretty good shape. The can is pretty decent. I think I kind of stole it for $100. It seems like its worth about $200 compared to others Ive seen.

The seller even charged me too much and sent $8.00 back on shipping. I also had a coupon from ebay for 8% off. Im glad I bought it.
