    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finally got myself a set of these very hard to find carbs. slightly dirty (as expected) but good,unmolested condition.
A few questions for any of you guys that have fitted these carbs to a 8 valve GS1000.
1; what inlet rubbers do i need?
2; what K&N filters fit, with no clearance problems on the frame?
3; in conjunction with a Harris race pipe, do these carbs need a DJ kit or are they easy enough to tune/set up without it.

1 they are a tight fit into your standard manifolds as long as manifolds are supple
2 K&N oval pods fit fine make sure you use filter oil on them
3 wash your mouth out..DJ... you get jets and jet the bike oldskool style

what jets are in the 29s now i would expect you would run around 110-115

You use the stock rubber inlets. Don't forget to grind out the inner diameter to match the 29mm bores. If you don't port the manifolds then you will restrict the flow and you might as well just keep the 26mm stock carbs.

thanks, the main jets in there are 130's. i do not know the history of the carbs so can only guess they were being used with pods on the gsxr750? hence the larger jets.
you think 110-115 mains will be big enough?

these are VM29SS, not 29mm smoothbores. the bore i/d is 33mm.

i am running VM28's at the moment
 
well that throws the cat in with the pidgeons
i thought you were talking about smoothbores

Those are the ones that are made for Kawasaki 900/1000 heads with oversize carbs. That is why you will have to slot the mounting holes to fit the GS head.
 
Those are the ones I was using with my VM33's. They have been opened up to enhance flow. The holes only need to be elongated a few mm's to fit the 1000 head.

great, thanks for the info Daryl.

now, back to the jets and filters. any ideas from experience anyone?
 
My VM33's are using 130 mains, 17.5 pilot with a .6 air correction jet. Mixture screws are out 2.5 turns.

Not sure if it's of help but that's what I am/was running.

thanks Daryl, i will leave the 130's in and see how things run as they are. then fine tune it from there.
