A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Voltage leak is normal?

Well, because I'm not so smart I have to ask:
How come my 3 Suzuki's show a low resistance reading when I connect a meter between the + and - battery cables, with the battery removed?
I expected to get total resistance.
Thanks.
Bill

The electical system looks likeabouut one ohm 14 amps at 14.volts
With battery disconnected a bit moore

Hi,

You can think of the electrical system on your bike as one "load", or one big resistor. Therefore you will not see infinite resistance when measuring like you did. Your ignition switch disconnects the battery from the system so that it does not drain.

In the simple circuit image below, replace "light bulb" with "motorcycle" and "switch" is the "ignition switch".

Thank you for your indulgence,

Different loads, for different bikes?

Different loads, for different bikes?

How many Ohms?
The 81-550T and the 82-1100G read 1 Ohm. The 93-750F Katana read 2-3 Ohms.
The switch was off and the batteries disconnected.
I think Cliff's diagram is too basic to explain the load, the bulb may represent only the ignition?
I disconnected each fuse in turn, but only the main had an effect on the Ohm meter, with that out I got infinite resistance.
This must mean that there is a drain on the battery if you let it sit fully connected, as I measured from the cables with the switch off.
Is there a good reason for leaking some voltage through the circuit?

You on the right range scale?
I get a reading in the million Ohms scale, nothing lower.

One ohm with 14v is 14 amps and would suck the battery down quick
