DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

That hump on take off and dow shift!!!!
Q1 what can b done to get more power?
Maybe headers, re jet, ??

By the way i just go it from ebay..+ it came whit a complete parts bike!!!
750.00 did i came out good??.....t/you.

I'm not sure what to say about the GS850 as far as power, but I had a NEW one in '82 and it ran just fine for me?? maybe your carbs are dirty and the 30+ years of maintenance is lacking?

valve adjustments are critical to performance and usually overlooked also.

As a word to the wise.. you are very welcome here BUT some guys won't answer posts that lack punctuation/grammar/spelling and so forth.

take your time to post in complete sentences... there are a lot of OLD GUYS on here ..including ME:D

Welcome to the site.....

Go and intorduce yourself in the GS Owners section as well, post some pics of your bike (bikes) update your USER CP with your location, and in your signature block at least put in the type of bike you have, we then don't have to ask you for that info each time...

Also include pictures, lots of pictures, we like pictures......they can say more than an entire post can at times.

use a hosting site such as photobucket or picassa, and you will be able to put 10 pics up at a time in one post...

Cheers

and until you get your official welcome package you can go here and do a bit of reading....

Easy mod to go faster... buy an 1100...

This

The 850 is the heaviest GS and makes adequate power, it's a sport tourer

It's a poor platform to make a hot rod

You can cough up $600 for a header, jet kit and pods and gain a few HP, but it will still be slower than another GS

If you want to go fast, fix it and flip it, then get a faster GS

Its probably out of tune. Clean the carbs, adjust the valves, and seal all the air leaks. You may be surprised at what she will do.

If it feels down on power there is a good chance it's not running right. Go through it, clean the carbs, adjust the valves, clean the air filter, make sure there are no air leaks in the intake and exhaust, and when it's in good order re-evaluate it.

When working right the 850 is fast enough. Especially if you keep that motor spinning above 6k.

A running bike, and a parts bike for 750 is a good sounding score. Post up some pictures!

I had an 82 850g myself. Still regret selling it I could ride that sucker 600 miles and never miss a beat. Mine never lacked on the power side and would even tote a good wheelie when asked. I agree with the above posts check your valves and clean & sync the carbs.
