I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

WANTED: info for source of fine-thread bolts

That sounds like a plan, another option if you are making set screws is to purchase a piece of M6 drill rod. Grainger or mcmaster carr should have it pretty cheap.
Drill rod is an option, but I would then have to find a way to fabricate a head that can have a tool used on it. Either a hex head, socket head, Phillips or even just a straight slot, but it needs to be larger than the body, as it needs to retain a tension spring. Straight drill rod will not work.

I should be able to source some M6 bolts locally that are long enough to cut off the threads and make my own.

.

i reckon go with the longer shanked bolts, cut the thread off and cut your own threads, that way you could choose your head option, hex, allen or posi

Whichever is the cheapest.

After all, not only am I a GSer, I have a Wing, too. :-\\\

Straight drill rod will not work.

Weld a washer or nut on the rod to retain the spring. Make a slot in the rod for a screwdriver 1/4"-1/2" above the washer.

not available at a Fastenal? That is my place for hard to find bolts.

They might be OK for "hard to find" bolts, but what I am looking for is apparently in the "impossible to find" category.

I just did a search for "M5 x 0.5" at Fastenal. Came up with a few items. One die, several dowel pins. The die costs $131.

Thanks, but no thanks.

.

did you see my post above Steve?
No, Age, I had not seen it, thanks for pointing it out.

I looked at the link, and following all the other stuff that is associated with it, it shows that that item is used three times, which gives me the impression that the 9 Euros is for one item, not a set of three. That would be 27 Euros per bike, which is just about $36. I will be doing this to the four GSes left in the stable, and possibly offering them for sale, so that is WAY too much money.

I have ordered another die (hopefully the correct size this time ), it was cheaper than the last one, less than $12 this time (including shipping). Even including the purchase of a wrong size die, I have spent less than $30 so far, now to find some proper machine screws that I can cut down and re-thread. :D

.

it may be worth just giving them a ring to check see if they are 3 or not. seems strange to call 1 screw a "set", especially as the springs are seperate too........

what wrong die did you buy?

Don't know why, but I ordered an M6 x 0.5. Should have been M5 x 0.5. :o

That's OK, I think there are other items that are M6, like the mixture screws.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

so all this time i have been keeping my eye out for a M6 x 0.5 bolt and now you tell me its M5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, bugger haahaaaaaa

I'm confused with all the numbers and such, but I think I might have what you need somewhere in the bowels of the spare parts, either the actual screws/bolts or the die to turn them down. If you still need either, please let me know.

S.

Thanks, S. I have a die coming, and I have a couple bolts here that I am going to try to thread when the die gets here.

If that works, it will merely be a matter of getting the bolts cheaper, but the ones I found are not all that bad.
