    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just noticed it's missing the chrome 'beauty cover' and reflectors on the bottom tree. 8O

That bike really looks good with that style luggage. =D>

I saw that bike in person when Dave rode it at Brown County, Indiana. The machine is beautiful. I hadn't noticed it was missing that piece, that's all. However some folks take that cover off because they don't like the looks of it.

BTW to repalace it new, it's still available, will cost you $30, and, get this, $11 each for reflectors.

Nope, not kidding. Don sent me a check, then flew up to Grand Rapids from Florida, I picked him up at airport and brought him here, he packed up the bike, backed it out of garage, hit the starter, and off he went.

I understand he got Wingnuts 850G earlier this year in a similar manner (Connecticut?). And last year he got a GK in Buffallo NY also in a similar manner. And he has his original 850G he got new in 1980.

I had never noticed that. Bike did have a Windjammer fairing on it, maybe lost those items then.
Original owner did pass on the original items taken off for the Samsonite luggage, but not those items . . hum....

Maybe see you at BC2007. (PS Still dont think that I have seen a cleaner engine than your 550, well, at least not on a bike that is actaully being used).

He has a yellow one, a black one, maroon, and not sure of the other color.
Or 7 days in a a weeek, 7 bikes to ride?

Way to go Don, at least we know they'll be ridden.
 
Had the pleasure of watching Redman ride her at Brown County and last weekend Don carved up the twisties at the Galena/Slimey Crud weekend! Before he left my house (stayed over the night he left Redman's) we cranked the OEM springs up to full stiffness (made a huge difference for Don, I'm told), and away we went!

This GS will continue to be well used and well cared for!

Geez, I'll have to chain mine up.........probably doesn't want VM carbs or solid rotors though.
 
No further comment from Don DPEP? I see the comment about making it home and "850 didnt miss a beat". Any other adventure?

I just now noticed this thread. I got back from Mich/Galena/West Virginia to Jacksonville late on 10/3, caught some things up on 10/4, and headed out on 10/5 for Texas. On that trip I drove my truck and after attending a reunion of my Vietnam outfit in Houston went up to Dallas where I picked up another.........you guessed it....850. This one had a wrecked front end and became the parts bike in my signature line. It is/was maroon like Redman's.

I really don't NEED that many motorcycles of the same model, but I just couldn't help myself when I saw such great looking bikes as Wingnut's and Redman's become available. I really tried to talk myself out of Redman's, but I couldn't and I am glad I couldn't as it may be the best ride of the lot right now. Runs great and 40 mpg or better all the way back.

What made these buys work was dealing with someone on GSR and being able to time my pickups. From Wingnut's place in Conn I was able to head up to Canada and go on this summer's great Cabot Trail Run. And from Redman's I was able to swing over and do the Galena Run with the Chicago gang.

If I can scratch out the time later I will try to put together a few words on the Michigan to Illinois to Wisconsin to West Virgina to Florida adventure.
 
That'll be the second time I saw that bike. Unfortunately Don wasn't able to ride with group from Galena, but we passed him as he rode the Crawford County route in reverse (a couple times?) looking to hook up with the rest of us. Glad to have met you Don. That's one less GSer in the long list of people to meet!;)

Actually, I was able to fall in with the group for the last couple of legs of the ride. The maroon 850 with the distinctive looking luggage is in the main group photos taken on the last long stop. Great ride, great route by the way.

Since you mentioned 'museam' . . .

I dont think Don will not mind me telling this story; this is how I tell the story to people that ask about me selling my bike.

Yep, sold the bike I have had for 14 years.
Sold it online,
on a website specifically for Suzukis from the early 80s.
A guy from Florida bought it.

I asked if him if he was planning on starting a museam or if he was expecting these bike from the 80s to greatly increase in value.
His responce was "well, ... planning and expecting .. ? ... that would imply rational thought, which I suspect doesn't apply in this case."

I understand completely.

Was fun to meet Don.
