Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have a 82 gs750t. My bike will not start. I pulled a spark plug and I had a really weak spark. It was orange not white/blue. I checked the coils. My first reading is 4 ohm and second is 11k ohms. From what I have read on other forms this is correct. I have 12 volts at the coils. The battery is only one week old. The bike started up fine the first couple of days after getting the new battery. Could it be a ignitor unit? What are your guys thoughts?

4 ohms primary and 11 kohms secondary says your coils are good. How about your plug caps ? try removing and cutting 1/4inch off plug wire and reassemble.
12 volts at coils with key on, but what happens to this voltage when you crank it ? below 11 gives some ignitors fits.

+1, If it ran well with a new battery and not a few days later, check the charging system.

I didn't get a chance to check the charging system. I was in the process of tuning my carbs to get my bike to run correctly. Is there a chance a faulty charging system killed my battery? What should I do now?

My voltage at the coils drops down to 8 when I try to start the bike.

My 81 GS750E would start very quickly if the battery had any charge. Do a quick test and the go through the grounds and clean up the fusebox. Most likely you need to change out the R/R. In 81 they had R/R's that could overcharge pretty easily.

In the end my 750 never needed a coil relay mod. Not saying it is bad, just deal with real source of your problems in the charging.

See GS Charging Health.

I went out side to try to start my bike to do the charging test. But my bike won't start. The battery is at 12.10 volts. I put the battery on my tinder. Do you guys have any ideas on how to get the bike to start?

My bike won't start with 12.1 volt battery either ,cuz that's a dead battery !- fully charged battery is about 12.7 volts- so let the tender do its thing.

Won't crank or wont start?

You don't need to have a running bike to do the first part of the Quick Test.

Also you will be waiting a very long time to get your battery charged up using a trickle charger.

It cranks. But won't start. I will let you guys know my readings after the battery is charged.

I just took my bike off the tender. I got a reading of 13 v. I turned the headlights on and the voltage dropped down to 12.05 volts. Does this mean my battery is dead? I boughs this battery 2 weeks ago from cycle gear. Should the battery still be covered by warranty? Is my best bet to exchange the battery and do a charging systems test? It is also 25 degrees here, I don't know how much that affects the battery.

That's too low especially for battery that just came off charger ( how "big" is this charger anyways ?). But humor me, remove headlight fuse and repeat test, how low does it drop now just with key on ?

The voltage with the bike off 12.46
voltage with bike on 12.30 no headlight
with headlight on 12.15.
I am using a small battery tender.

I did you quick test

*key off................12.46

2.)*key on*(but not cranking with lights for 10 sec).....
12.1

3.)*at idle*(1500 rpm)..... 12.4

4.)*at 2500 rpm*13.67

5.)*at 5000 rpm.....13.20

6.)*12.00
would this be a stator or a rare problem? Or do I need to do more testing?

The fact that the voltage decreased going from 2.500 RPM up to 5,000 tells you that your regulator is working but that you have some poor connections. Read the rest of The Stator Papers, it's all in there, as well as how to fix it.
