The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

Well that didn't work.

I changed out the o-rings, as many suggested, but that didn't solve my oil pressure light issue. I did remove the sender unit and oil still burps out with maybe a tad more pressure but obviously not enough to hit the trigger pressure on the sender.

So it looks like I'll be pulling and exchanging oil pumps this afternoon. Bummer:(

I'll let you know how that all goes.

Cheers,

Perhaps the sender itself is no good?
Have another one to switch it?

Somehow I doubt it will do any good.

Bummer.......

at least you got a spare to swap out and see how it goes then....

I on the other hand seem to have issues with my forks....LOL,,,I think I am missing parts, internally,,,,how the heck does that happen...

well off to the store to get my throttle grip/tube

hopefully you have the pump swapped out by the time I get back, will be nice to read a happy ending...

I'm almost afraid to ask what you are thinking. This is pretty much the last hope. Or second to last if I have to go swap entire engines.

I did pull the pump this afternoon but didn't get it swapped as it was getting oppressively hot in the man cave and my enthusiasm was waning. I'll get that done in the morning probably or I may just bag it and go for a ride on the 750.

After supper I plan on giving her a bath and shine her up to be ready. She hasn't been made pretty for over a year.

This OP thing is driving me bonkers and I'd like to get done with it but if the pump doesn't work then I'm really done, mentally at least.

Sorry to hear about your forks Mr. G are you sure you're not imagining it? The other thing I wonder about is those antidive mechs. they have been disconnected on all of my bikes and I wouldn't know what they feel like if working. I have not, as yet been in to my forks to see if they were modified at all but they are due for some fork seals this season so as soon as I get this other bike sorted and road worthy I can dive into that.

Did you get a battery? More importantly, did you get a gobbler?

I'll let you know how the pump swap works out.

Keep your fingers crossed for me.

lazy hazy days ahead, and I was lazy........cigars, beer, crown royal today....

I did get my throttle tube and grips

I did not get a gobbler (I have until the end of the month to get out there) didn't go, also no battery, to far to drive, and other errands to run today (honey to do list, she was short a car, so I played Taxi....)

ohhh well, I knew this was going to happen, and that is why I was shooting for a completion date for the first week of May.....but it will get done....

hope you get that OP sorted out as well, and it won't take an engine swap to fix it....

Go for a ride.....clear the head, and enjoy the weather....

Cheers

Just that you said the pump looked good, no visible wear I think you said.

I've seen some ugly pumps making some kind of pressure, for it to make none it needed to be broken. You said it wasn't broken.
This leaves the gears and such that drives the pump, or the oil is leaking out of some internal passageway inside the engine.

Anyway, good luck and I hope I am wrong.

That wouldn't explain why the oil is just dribbling out with the engine running and the oil passage open..

I doubt it's the oil pump. Teeth would have to be broken off the gears for it to not pump. You might want to take off the pump side cover and look inside. It's a very simple device.

Did you drop the oil pan and look at the relief spring and pan O-ring feeding oil to the oil cooler? Is the pump drive pin there? The other thing I'd question is the pressure switch itself.

Well I did have a look at the original pump in the bike and while it didn't look worn or beat up, I did not check for clearances. While I'm not 100% sure, the pump out of the parts bike seems "tighter" if I can but it that way. I will have to see them side by side to confirm that but I remember thinking the original pump did feel a bit loose, very easy to turn the shaft with no resistance.

Another thing I noticed today, when I pulled the pump, there was a fair amount of oil sitting in one chamber. That bike has been sitting unrun for going on a year I believe. The original pump which had last run hours before I removed it didn't hold any oil in its chambers. Perhaps another reason to suspect the pump?

As far as the senders, I have 3. One from each bike and one automotive that I bought to test. It triggers at 2 to 3 psi which is, I believe, the same as the bike sensors. I tested them by grounding to the engine case and shooting in some compressed air. They all triggered and the lights went off.

Like Tkent says, it is the fact that oil just dribbles from the sensor hole that puts the willies up me since its a plain bearing engine that runs OP of between 36 and 78 psi. It should shoot out in a geyser at those pressures.

If its not the pump and its leaking somewhere else internally I'd be damned if I could likely figure that out so I'm praying its the pump.

We'll find out tomorrow.

Cheers guys and mucho thanks for all the support and input. I'd of chucked this long ago if you hadn't been backing me up.

Badly worn crank bearings can bleed off a lot of pressure. I have seen V8 engines showing max 10-15 psi at any rpm.

I don't doubt it, but according to my reading of the oil passage diagram in the manual, the sender is almost directly above the oil pump and is fed before the oil gets to the crank. Also, the bike only has around 21000 Km on it so unless they came bad from the factory or the engine was redlined 24/7 I wouldn't think they would be used up. There are no weird engine sounds either.

It certainly is a weird set of symptoms, I'll grant you that and they've cost me more than a few sleepless nights. I just hope I can get this sorted tomorrow as I'm worn out by it all.

Cheers all,
