    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i went thru the carbs again today 2+3 only hit when i spray them with starting fluid. i put in 155 mains still the same went to 140 same 95 same??????...the only problem is 2 3 carbs are not working the bolws are full of gas.. it idles fine start easy vacuum is coming out of #3 it is the little brass ports onlt three carbs have then #1 gets it from #2
 
sound like you have a weak coil....swap the plug wires, #1 and #4, with #2 and #3 and see if the problem moves to the outboard cylinders..just for info in case you didn't already know, #1 and #4 fire from one coil, #2 and #3 fire from the other. :twisted:

i know about the firing order. it do not think it is the coils why would shooting starting fluid make the 2 3 cylinders hit. im getting good spark on all four and have a martech igntion it has to be in the carbs don;t you think?
 
reason i said to move the wires around is because starting fluid wil ignite with even the most weak source of ignition. swap and see, it can't hurt :twisted:

Having spark at 1 atmosphere is pretty easy. If you use a real spark tester you'll see that you are making the spark jump much more than that of a spark plug in order to simulate the compression.

i went out and pulled the plug wires switched them around no change still the 2 3 will not run.. i have over 130 lbs on each cylinder. ok i did see this if i pull the cap off the wire and get it close to the plug end i get no fire but stick it to a bolt head and im getting a 1/2 long or better solid strong blue spark..
 
if swapping the plug wires yeilds the same problem as before, then you have a carb problem...make sure you take them completely apart and clean then out nice and good. It might take a few times. Go and get 2 cans of cleaner right away. You'll use them both. using an air compresser wouldnt hurt as well. When i had this problem with my bike i had dirty carbs and poor spark due to a bad sparkplug boot. Check and double check everyhting. you'll get it

i soaked them in cleaner for a week blew them out them used three cans of carb cleaner blew through every jet twice the took them off a second time and put all new jets in still the same im going to throw them in the trash and buy a new set of flat side mikunis.
 
couple of things to try...

* does it run when choke is on...?
* have You tried to sync the carbs...?

only will start with choke after it warms up you can turn the choke off and it will idle.what is there to syncronize only air jets and it will run regardless of where they are at? it puzzle me to think the carbs are still stopped up if i put the breathers on start it up sray staring fluid or carb cleaner on the breather it can rev the enginge and it runs good. i know the starting fluid is hotter then gas but the choke cleaner is not so if it was a weak fire problem i think the cleaner rules that out.
 
lemme get this right....on a cold engine, you need to use choke to start. after it warms up, it idles fine on all cyl. if you shut it down warm, you still need the choke? If so, then you have a massive air leak. when you removed carbs, did you also change the 'O' rings in the manifolds? are the boots in good shape?
if you don't need the choke to start when warm, idles fine, but when throttle is opened 2&3 go dead, then it sounds like you have delivery problem with fuel, either too much and flooding out ( due to improper float hieght) or too lean ( did you put those little black plugs that go on the bottom of the jets in the float bowl back on?) did you pull the #2,3 plugs? what they look like? fuel fouled or dry? Did youadjust/check to see if the mixture screws located at the front of the carbs were open? did you remove them when you cleaned the carbs? If all this is correct, and you have pod filters installed, you need those mixture screws out pretty far, as the pods will lean out the mixture big-time. I ask this because of all the jetting you are doing to it. keep working with it, it will come around and once you do get it going it will all be worth it. one more Q: why did you pull and clean carbs to begin with? did problem appear after you did this or before? :twisted:

changed plugs several times they look dry....i bought the carbs from another guy they was off a 750 so i put bigger jets in them it starts with choke warms up then you can turn the choke off but the 2 3 carbs only hit when you spray fluid in them or hold yous hane over them then they will kick in for about 5 rev ups.
