A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

First off got to say this is a wonderful forum. been so busy riding i never posted my progress getting my doa 550 running (came to me as a roller and a box of parts). Gotta thank Nessism for his help pointing me in the right direction for igintion system, keith krause for all his carb posts and basscliff for his greeting page and website. ive put about 3k miles on the bike in the last two months with eo's help.

Installed some new shocks from partsnmore.com (thanks again nessism for posting that link $80 shipped) and what a difference.:D The bike goes foward now instead of squatting during accel. no more bottoming out or getting squirelly on rippled pavement.

After reading around on the forum went with slightly longer than stock shocks as well (bout an inch) and glad i did. Tip in is so much easier that i might even get to like the "L" bars. And extra the extra ground clearence yay no more scraping centerstand or pegs in sharp corners or construction zones.

Also picked up a rear rack and a set of soft bags (i love craigslist) so i can use the bike for small trips around town instead of just for pleasure riding.

Great hope you enjoy it for many more miles, so now where are the pics????????

How did you like the shocks? I checked the partsnmore website, and it shows that they use progressive springs, but it doesn't say anything about damping adjustment. Did your's come with a damping adjustment knob or something?

Hey what year is your 550l? I have a 1985 that needs new front shocks too, and am not sure if I want something slightly longer than stock or not.

Hi Mr. Thecheapnewbie,

Thanks for sharing your success story. It just warms the cockles of my heart. ;)

If you need a guide to help you post pictures, click here to read mine. (Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.) :D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

pics will be in the works once i get my tax return. my old digital camera crapped out on me and the cell phone cam doesn't work either.

buddha- no damping adjustment just preload. they do use a spring set-up ive never seen before. Instead of one spring with progressively more coils top to bottom they use two seperate springs with a spacer in between to keep them front binding.

I like the ending of your post including the greatest command, though that scripture more correctly (before the translators changed it), "Love Jehovah your God..." Should give credit where credit is due.
