A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i have been struggling against this on going problem since i got the bike in march... idles great when i quit messing with the screws(good color) cruises 2nd gear at 2000-2500rpm color looks good but my mid range.

6th gear 3 grand and pretty much any cruising speed under 55 no matter the rpms(it does it many other places too but here the most) will run fine for about 30 to 45 secs and then it loads up with fuel on the first two carbs like ive turned the pilots in all the way and they are still black...

Stock exhaust and intake oem emgo filter. Tried swapping the slides and diaphragms and slides no change swapped floats no change replaced needles and seats and reset float level, no change.

I am litterally about to pull my hair out with this. also when it screws up its a constant battle you can hold it wide open and it will slow down and shudder reall bad then just rocket off like no ones business. also when its doing this you have to rev it at idle and it will idle smooth at 1100-1200 rpms then will start dropping like its loading up with fuel and depending on how bad its doing it it will die.

What am i looking for here, i have cleaned the carbs and set the valves, is there something i missed? the needles on the slides look okay i cant see any wear. Is there something other than the sides that meters the airflow at the range

This may be a stretch.. Does this bike have the vacuum fuel valve? My '79 has that, and I had a similar problem to this. The seal inside the valve was bad, which allowed gas to leak through as if it were in the 'pri' (prime) position. So it would flood the first carb the gas runs into. Mine was bad enough that it would leak a lot of gas out of the overflow.

Maybe that will help some, but I didn't have time to look anything up on your model.

I would check your petcock to make sure its not leaking and dumping fuel down the vacuum line into the #2 carb. Also check to make sure you don't have any intake leaks.

i have replaced intake orings and there is no leaks... i only have two carbs and there is some gas in the line but ive verified with a vacuum pump that its from the carb spitting and not from the petcock also i have rebuilt the pet cock and there is no leaks

It sounds like you've got it pretty much figured out then..good luck with it.

ha! figured out, no that would be when its running right. Is there an air jet in the mouth of the carb too? in those little screw jets and/or is it common for the seat for the slide needle to wear out but the needle be fine?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i got it fixed finally!!! I redipped the carbs and noticed when i flip the slides up they slide up and when i flip them back over only 3 and 4 slide down. You would have to wiggle the carbs to get them to slide down. so i took 0000 steel wool and took the varnish off of the slides and they would fall under their own weight(my carbs dont use a return spring like yours they use weight) and put it on i can cruise 30 mph in 6th gear hearing nothing but the chain!!!! AND it doesnt load up with fuel. It was getting stuck up towards the top letting the main flood it

Congratulations on a tough troubleshoot. It must be very satisfying to ride a bike that now behaves like it should.
