A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've just bought a GSX 1100 it's was imported in 91 and was given a 1980 reg. I think its has a later engine fitted as some of the engine parts for a 1980 do not fit, the number is GS 110X107386 Anyone any idea what the engine is from or what year it is.

is that the bike in question in your avitar picture?
if it is (a little hard to tell) that looks like a 1981 gs (gsx) 1100E, the key is if it has a square headlight (looks like it)
and the cam end covers are rectangle shaped instead of round (looks like it but that is a tiny picture!)

Actually Leon the X in the engine number is the give away it signifies that it is a 16Valve motor and the lowness of the engine number tells us that it is a 1980 GSX1100T imported from Aug79 till Oct80.

Thanks Dink, where did you get the info on the engine numbers????
still don't explain why my generator is 3mm smaller than the standard for 1980 engine and only puts out 60v. It works fine 12.3v to 14v at the battery but I had to replace the regulator to get that !!!!!

The rotor is easy , at some point someone put a 750 one in. 60 volts aint bad and may very well beall the capacity it has otherwise it is also up for repair or replacement.
BTW the list of engine numbers I refered to is in the front of the "Haynes" manual no737 for GSX/GS1000,1100 & 1150
Dink
I also have the genuine manual for both my bikes, I wont ever bother with Haynes again , that listing is the only resonably useful piece of info in it.
