    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What Is Height And Width Of Gs750 Motor??

Hi all,

I know this may sound a little strange, but I am thinking of getting a GS750 motor and shoehorning it into another frame. :-s

So....I need to know how big the donk is...

Width at bottom of motor?? (across the frame)

Width at top of motor?? (across the frame)

Height of motor??

Depth at bottom of motor?? (in direction from front frame tube to swingarm)

Depth at top of motor?? (same direction, including carbs)


I know the above may not be too clear....but I think you get the general idea of the measurements I need.:confused:

Can someone run out to their bike and check this out for me??

What frame are you thinking of putting it in mate ?

i've used gs motors in all sorts & may know if it will fit :-D

Nah, I'm a real shy kinda guy....if you can get me the measurements, I might be a little more willing to tell ya....but ONLY if you get me the measurements.... :wink:
 
Doh i didnt even look :oops:

& the answer to wil it go is................... not without some modification to bottom frame rails (hack them off & start again) rear mounts will be nowhere near & the stock suspension wont handle it, there will be issues with clearance between the wheel & downpipes & a million other less important things but.................

I still i reckon it would make a good cafe project if you got the skills & time to do it :-D

Hang on a sec....seem to recall that the GS1000 motor is dimensionally the same as the GS750.....so if anyone's got one of 'em, can you please check out the dimensions and let me know??

I have a sinking feeling that the motor won't fit anyway, but I sure would like to know one way or the other..... :-k

I pulled the lump out of my 80 GS750 a few months ago and it's sitting on a cart in my garage so measuring is easy... once I stop throwing up.
And I'm two bolts away from yanking the motor from my 79 GS1000... once the vomiting ceases... grrr, groan, whine. been a couple of weeks now... maybe I should stop eating the month old sushi combo platters eh?. (Oh, great - I just made meself sick again)

I'm smack dab in the middle of swapping motors so I can tell ya what's what when i regain my composure.
My intention is to fully compare the two frames sizes and weights and slap the 1k into the 750 - very common swap i believe.
 
There are three generations of GS750 motors - the original 8 valve motor ('76-'79), the first TSCC 16 valve motor ('80-'82), and the second TSCC 16 valve motor ('83-'85). The second TSCC motor is the most compact and weighs the least. It was also produced as the GS700 during the tariff years.

The original GS1000 motor was very similar to the GS750 but I've read that dimensionally it was actually smaller than the 750.

I suggest you go with the third gen engine.

If the 1000 is indeed smaller than the 750, then I don't think I'll waste time mucking around with the 750!! But waiting on confirmation before getting toooo carried away...

And Tone,
I do actually have a sense of adventure....but I'm trying to postpone the great adventure in the sky as much as possible....not tooo anxious to get there before I'm about, ohhh, I dunno....about 98 years old!!

Get me some measurements, boys!!

As Hap said there are three iterations of the 750. I happen to have two, the 8v and first gen 16v TSCC sitting lose in the basement at the moment. Which are you picking up and i can measure for you. The 1000, from best i can tell, is simply a tad shorter, not necessarily smaller, as it never had a kick-starter. It may be more the same size as the later 16v 750s.

I'd probably go the earlier 8 valve job, as I hear an early 850 top end is fairly straightforward swap....if I decide to go with that later!!

Did some of my own stuff yesterday, by the time I got to taking measurements I was toast.
I'll check it when I get home from work tonight at 7-ish.
Reeeeaallly sick still, but hafta work.

(I haven't felt this bad since I fell off my dinosaur. HAHAAAAAA. BWaahaaa. Get it? "My dinosaur" the 79 Brontosaurus, haha....
C'mon, dYa get it? Crashed it last summer? Get it? ... GS1000... Dinosaur...

Nope.....don't gettit..... :???:

But if you can get some measurements....that would be great....have you got the airbox?? If so, can you measure the motor with that on as well, 'cos that's probably the way I'll go....
