All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i pulled my bike apart to fix the gaskets in them..only the main gaskets not the valves or any of that stuff. when i put my bike back together only the 2 right pipes are getting hot while the other 2 (left) are not at all..the bike wont stay itelling but will run on choke..tried taking it for a ride but every time i went to go it stalled out...could it be my timing on the bike (thought i did it right followed directions) could it be my carbs (they where fine before hand) could it be compression, spark..what???? need to get back on the road...and oh yeah, missing bike week RIGHT NOW...ahhhhhhh

are ur plug wires on the right cylinders lol i did that and it did the same thing urs is doing.

What bike do you have?

On my 82 GS1100GL the left coil going to 1 and 4, right coil to 2 and 3.

Howdy!
It would be best to check a shop manual for your specific bike, Basscliff has one for a bunch of different GS's on his website, follow this link http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff, and maybe edit your signature line under your user profile to include your bike info so you don't get tons of messages asking what we are working on.

If your bike is a four cylinder GS, there will be two cables coming from each coil. I believe that the coil on the left side of the bike (while sitting on it) will have one spark plug wire going to #1, and one to #3, while the right side coil will have one going to #2, and one to #4.

It's been a while since I've mucked about with the coils on my bike, but I believe this should be correct, but without knowing which bike we are talking about, it's impossible to be sure.

Best of luck,

Typically left coil is 1/4 and right is 2/3

Also hit up your user CP and add your bike in the signature along with years and mods. Helps us trouble shooting your bike.

According to the following wiring diagram, from BassCliff's site, your 1982 GS650GLZ or GS650GLD will have one coil feeding spark plugs 1 and 3, then the other coil feeding spark plugs 2 and 4.
1982GS650GLZ-1983GS650GLD.Jpg

I hope this helps, and let us know how it turns out, or preferably, turns over. :D

Hi,

The plugs are not numbered in that wiring diagram.

It is true that the left coil feeds #1 and #4, the right coil feeds #2 and #3.

What "main gaskets"? Head gasket? Base gasket? If so, you had to remove the cams and time them again during installation. Why not adjust the valves? Did you clean the carbs?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
