    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK, now that I've decided to go ahead and change my chain and sprockets, what make does the majority prefer?

I plan on using Sunstar sprockets as I've had luck with them in the past.

For chains,do I go with Tsubaki, EK, Regina or :?:

Also, I want to change my gearing to get better highway mileage. I got enough power so that's not an issue, so what sprocket set-up ?.
 
I prefer Tsubaki chain as it seems to last longer and not stretch nearly as quickly as others. For the sprockets, I would just go up one tooth on the countershaft sprocket. That would have the same effect as dropping three teeth on the rear sprocket.

Always have good luck with both Sunstar sprockets and Tsubaki chain. I'd go up one tooth on the counter sprocket, less difference in the number of links and not as tight a turn radius on the chain.

Ill go with the one tooth on the countershaft sprocket also. As long as you are changing sprockets also Doug have you considered making the conversion to a 530 chain??? These modern ones are very strong.

I just installed a RK 630 chain I had to shorten the chain by 10 links it was 160 dollars Canadian, ive onbly had the bike for aweek and ive just changed the chain and sprokets.....so Ill let you know

Differences??

These questions always interest me.... In this day and age, and as competitive as companies are....is it really likely that there would be any significant difference (dollar for dollar) between one maker and another??

I don't pretend to know...but it seems SO unlikely. :!: When it comes to chains.....there ain't no secrets!! :roll:
 
I've had good luck with Tsubaki and DID. The RK stretched way too easy.
 
Used DID myself for years. They seem so good I just never tried another brand!

I think its probable that as long as you pick a chain with a minimum of 10,000 lbs tensile strength, chain life will be about the same. The chain on my 750 is rated at 12,500 lbs. Besides being kept lubed, that is likely the primary reason I have not had to adjust the chain in about 10,000 miles.
