what makes a "Giuliari" seat special?

Has anyone here successfully recreated the aesthetic of a Giuliari seat before? I love the look but the cost is awfully prohibitive, assuming you can even find one for sale. Is the pan itself different from a stock GS1000 seat pan or does the difference lie primarily in the shape of the foam? If the latter, a good upholstery shop should be able to recreate the look. Has anyone compared the seats side by side, meaning stock vs. Giuliari.

And I think this is a dumb question but in going to ask anyways...a 750 Giuliari seat won't fit on a 1000, right?

The Giuliari seat for the GS1000 differs primarily from OEM in that it does away with the plastic seat trim. The pan sits lower on the frame (the metal supports and rubber stops under the pan have been lowered). To my eye at least, it looks a lot better.



No, a Giuliari GS750 seat does not fit the GS1000.

Not sure if it needs a Giuliari pan to start with or not and they are in the UK. Looks like a nice piece.

That's just the cover. Need the seat pan as well. There is one for sale on eBay UK but its pushing $400USD after shipping.

Since these seats were more popular in Europe than anywhere else, your best bet is to look on European eBay sites: Italy (search for "Giuliari sella"), and Germany (search for "Giuliari sitzbank"). That's how I found mine. If you're VERY lucky (and financially well-provisioned), you may be still able to pick up NOS items which have been lying around. It's a shame that the Giuliari factory is no longer operating, these seats seem to be very popular nowadays.

Good call on the Italy and Germany sites. I've been routinely searching the UK version but I'll bookmark those as well. I think I may take my pan and pictures of the Giuliari to my upholsterer and see if she can match the profile of the giuliari seat. It may not be identical but I'm sure she can get it damned close.

The seat pan doesn't look overly special. A custom made upholstery shop special, using a regular seat pan, could replicate the look pretty closely.

I've emailed that sender earlier in the auction. The best pursuant he could find is $120USD which makes that a $500 seat as of now.

I've got one that I'd be prepared to sell for ?90 UK Pounds. The postage would probably cost about ?60 to USA but I would do it at cost for you.

The seat is original, and in good condition apart from a small slit on the seam. It has a steel base although I've transferred the hinges onto the standard seat that I prefer as my wife rides pillion. It is taken from my 1978 GS750 but I think it will fit a 550 too.

Does a guiliari seat just have different shaped foam or does the "frame" in the back give it the shape that sits over the rear cowl? Im trying to figure out how to modify my existing to fit a "replacement" cover, if at all possible.
