A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have 79' GS 1000 and I don't know what model I have. It has a12 digit vin.
VIN-GS1000107359
Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

I'm not sure how to tell by the VIN # but you only have two choices by looking at the 'very small' picture, an E or a C. The C came with a single front brake, flat seat, option of spoked rims, the E came with two discs up front, steeped seat, mags.

I'll try to get some better pic uploaded. It has a single front brake rotor and spoke wheels, but I don't know if the wheels are original or not. The title doesn't give me much help either.

I feel like a dumb$@%, but I don't know what I'm looking at.

As far as the C model goes, I never see that as an option when I'm looking for parts for the 79'

Well they may not classify it as a 'C' it may be under 'N' instead, same thing. Not sure what the 'N' stands for but it's the base model which is the 'C', as far as I know, but then again I don't know much :)

Thanks for the info. I'm not done yet though....I have to find out what model I have. I think I figured out how to upload pics here so I will add some pics this evening when I get home. Please check back and help me out!!!

If you click on THIS LINK, you will go to the "Model Information" section on the GSR home page. Looking at the tops of the columns, you will see that a "C" after the full bike designation is for the '78 models, "N" is for '79s. If you had an '80 model, it would be a "T", and so on.

Since it does not appear that you have the "E" model for that year, you could say that you have a 1979 GS1000 or you could say that you have a GS1000N. It would be redundant to say that you have a 1979 GS1000N. If you had the "E" model, it would be a GS1000EN or a '79 GS1000E.

Not nearly as much alphabet soup as the H-D crowd, so it's really not all that hard to keep track. :-\\\

Here are a few pics...hope I did this right!!!
