wheel bearing inspection question

80 GS850G (13K miles) with unknown maintenance:
I have pulled the front wheel to clean it up, inspect it, etc. Both bearings turned smoothly with no sticky points or crunchiness. They feel damped but smooth. Is that all I am looking for? Should I replace them anyway or is this enough to know that they are okay?

Also, I am sure that this has been answered before but when I search, I come up with nothing. Is there some trick to searching these forums?

I'd leave them alone. Those OEM bearings were high quality pieces. The only thing that causes them to fail (other than high mileage) is water entry. It sounds like you don't have either of these issues though.

Agreed. If they feel reasonably smooth they're fine.

Another nemesis to wheel bearings is SAND! My 1000e lived most of it's life in Florida, that sand gets everywhere. My front wheel bearings felt a little crunchy so I decided to replace all my wheel bearings. A cheap piece of mind.
